Cunningham Falls Lake,Big Pool
« on: Dec 23, 2010, 11:16 AM »
I have the answer here why ice fishing isn't allowed on Cunningham Falls Lake. The lake is often drawn down at all times of the year when stream levels in the trout stream below the lake is low. This can lead to ice with no water under it to support weight.Years ago when I started ice fishing a friend of mine  drilled a hole through the ice there and the water was 2 feet under the ice! The park ranger quickly told him to get off of the ice.Big Pool has had a problem with the lake leaking. Many times the last several years the lake has been real low.Recently, they took it oof the list of lakes to be stocked with trout. However, you can ice fish it and it does have nice sized bass and crappies. Most of the sunfish and yellow perch are small.
