Get the gear ready. Hopefully there willfully be ice soon
-
back in december, i was about 2 nights in the teens away from getting out on a shallow lake. never happened and got a total reset, but if the wind screws off during this coming cold weather over the next two weeks those shallow lakes should be decent maybe. we will see.
-
Sounds good the sooner the better
-
Everything is loaded in the truck and ready to go somebody find me some ice
-
Should be good in jersey this weekend.Pa has good ice just over border.
-
we were out january 8th but it was only for the lighter guys haha... some shallower lakes up north and west of morris/sussex border have 4-5" but others froze over and didn't thicken up much... too many variables to not check.
people like to give me a hard time about fishing early 2.5" ice, but i'd rather fish that after checking it meticulously than all these guys that wait for a 4" ice report and then go out just go out blindly assuming it's safe. People are going through this weekend, mark my words, because of this reason.

Ok ???
-
Heard someone went thru yesterday at Hopatcong at state park. That true?
-
That's the story going around.Went thru 3inches at state park.Troopers kicked the rest of fisherman off.
-
well i did call it didn't i :-\ people want to wait for the 5" ice report then walk out blindly and go through... same crap every year.

I was at State Park that day. I got on the ice at 12:30. There was a cone on the ice and another fisherman told me not to go over there, that someone "went swimming". Fished until 3:30, pulled a few perch. There was 4 inches of ice where I was fishing, but you could see some shady areas and some open water. You have to check, check, check. Picture of a fish from that day. TD

Idk boys I’m not that adventurous to risk anything. Often the best fishing is on small tucked away ponds or lakes. You just need to go easy on harvest if you take anything. Hopatcong is a big impoundment. I’ve done well on smaller lakes, ponds. We’ve had fishable ice a couple weeks at the northernmost tip of state.
My buddy lives on Greenwood. Said he went way out from his house drilling holes last night and there was 7-8” ice. That’s big water as well.
Excuse me, needed to modify this, just reread his text, he said 8-9” at Greenwood.

Excuse me again fellows, upper Greenwood
