First Ice for me
« on: Nov 17, 2009, 11:29 PM »
I Hit St Mary's on Saturday.  There was 8-9 inches of really good ice.  the Brookies were biting too. only fished for an hour and a half since I didn't want to get stuck int the bad weather.  I caught 20 or 30 in that time (really scratched that itch!)

Way to go rsobeck!  From pix I saw at another site, there looked to be quite a few hardwater junkies on early ice last week.  Can't blame 'em!  I've got to get over to Sportsmens tonight and buy some new line for my reels. I have next week off and am thinking about hiking in to a high lake somewhere, but not St. Mary's.  Maybe in the Tenmile Range by Breck.  I picked up a 4" manual auger off craigslist just for backpacking/hiking in to high lakes.  The Strikemaster Lazer is gassed up and ready to go to big water once the cold snap hits.

Nice brookies and pix!

Coboy,
I live in Highlands Ranch CO.  The lake I fished was a small lake at about 13,000ft with good hike in access (St Marys Glacier has it's own web page, google it).  With the cold snap we're having here this week I'm hoping for early ice at the lower elevation lakes around Denver, but I'll be hitting south park with everyone else this Saturday.  Good luck out there!!
