what to use
« on: Mar 04, 2013, 12:06 AM »
What do you guys on the kenai pen use for trout? Either jigging or tip-ups. I have been try jigging spoons and crappie jigs. Haven't been getting any luck.

I'm no expert, but cured salmon roe for lake trout, rainbows, and dollys works good.  Whitefish is good for lakers and burbot, though I've never caught a  burbot.  Spoony jigs like crocodiles, sweedish pimples, castmasters, etc.

Thanks for the advice!  I decided to head to the lake to see if i could hit a morning bite today. It took less than a minute and i had this guy.  My first fish through the ice. I was super happy. I fished for another half hour then came home.

I use anything made by Custom Jigs and Spins. The Peninsula fish absolutely love them.
Lately I have been fishing my own creations. All tipped with small pieces of raw shrimp.
This is a 20" rainbow

A decent limit of Landlocked Salmon

Lead-heads with big eyes and a rubber tail
Cyclops
Krokodile
Swedish Pimple
KastMaster...
all will work on any given day. Tip them with RAW shrimp or eggs and generally you're gonna catch fish.
I knew a guy who only fished with tiny snelled hooks weighted down with a split shot and one Pautzky egg. Always caught'em.
See you up the trail.
