Wheatland area lakes?
« on: Jan 04, 2008, 04:09 PM »
Long time reader and first time poster here.

I was wondering if anybody had any reports on the Wheatland area lakes such as Wheatland #1, Rock Lake, Grayrocks, and Glendo.  I've never fished them through the ice before.  I've had luck during other times of the year.  I live in Laramie and want to try some places other than the plains lakes or North Crow.  Any info is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I havn't heard anything this year and i havn't been up thier to fish. But if you fish Rock Lake stay next to the dam or over at the south end by the pipe in the water. #1 i would stay over by the dam or on the noth west end. Grayrocks and Glendo i am not to sure about. And welcome to the shanty!

Fishinwithflys

When was the last time you fished Rock Lake?  I have been wondering about it since I've moved to Cheyenne.  What did you catch in it?  How deep is it?

It has been a while but i have caught trout, catfish, walleye and one bass. I don't know what the deepest part of the lake but i have seen water as deep as 20 ft. I have only ice fished it once. I used to fish it during the summer.

Greyrocks is a sad sad sight right now. The water is really really low. There are islands popping up every where. I fished it a couple times this summer and only got a few eyes that were 12-14 inches and very skinny.

Haven't been on the ice there yet it can be too sketchy with out really cold weather

Thanks for the info.

Last spring and summer my wife and I both caught our limits in small walleyes twice at Wheatland #1.  I'd love to have that kind of success through the ice!  We've caught some pretty nice bass and catfish at Rock Lake.  I hear there's a couple huge walleyes still swimming around in there.

Good luck everyone!
