Show Your Bait Tank
« on: Dec 12, 2008, 10:47 AM »
Since theres is only like 15-20 of us on the RI forum and we seem to all be trapping bait this year... why not show off your bait tank. I am curious to see everyones setups.

That sucks Doug...I hope the cover worked for you.   This morning I was thinking that... "thank goodness my tank is inside".  I am interested in seeing yours. I have a river going by my house and I was considering making a trench for holding bait, but then I finally found the stock tank I wanted.

Let us know how it made out, I hope the best for your bait.

Yes tap water.... but I have well water. If I had a problem plan B was to pump water from the stream which goes by my house. Luckily in 4 months I haven't had any big issues expect in Oct when it went from 50 to 30 to 50 to 30 for a week. Nearly all of the bait that had open wounds (the ones caught rod and reel) got bacterial infections and I starting canning a few each day to try and stop the spread but it was no luck. (Thankfully the ones without open wounds didn't die.)

Other than that I have been using bait salt and quarter doses of melafix.  I have some better bait also that I will use if things get unmanageable.

Damn, Doug... That BLOWS! Looks like you have a couple of weeks to get stocked up again. Not the end of the world if you enjoy catching bait as much as I think you do  ;D

Wow Doug, sorry to hear that.

If we get a decent day that is not windy you me and tightline can head out.  We had 40 foot long goldies before the whacky weather in October sprouted a bacterial infection in my tank. (I don't use a bio-filter since I am only keeping in the winter)  I only have one left no and unless we can get a calm day then tightline and I may have scrap for it. LOL

Anyways, send one of us a PM if you wanna go out with us for some 10-12'ers this week.

That's cool, I wanted to keep it simple. I just cut the top open and made a top out of wood I had in my garage. I put in 225 gallons.  I only had to buy 2 hinges for the top. This is what is going in the back of my truck next striper season for live lining pogies. ;D

By the way, nice big one KingMartin, did you trap that or catch it?

I am scared to think of what I may catch with these... I may have to chop myself a big hole, lol. (This is one of the smaller ones)

How did you get those?

You gotta get them in the summer, they are much easier to find then. Thats why that one looks so harsh, he's been in there a while.   At least his face is starting to grow back.. he and his buddies got slammed with some small trebles.  It looked like I had a tank full of kisser fish.

EAD dont play with the bait, just talk to them

I leave the playing with them and talking to them up to you tight line.  Too much time spent alone in your boat with your woodland buddies.       That mouse still owes you a beer. lol

Hopefully we can get a base layer before the snow...fingers crossed.

Tightline & I got about 10-15 dozen more today now we need to get more big ones.
