What's your monster yellow perch?
« on: Dec 16, 2007, 07:19 PM »
Okay, this hard water season, besides that 10lb + pike I'm after, I'm after a slob of a Yellow Perch. I figure some of you guys must have some pics of some giants for me to dream over. My son ( 8 years old ) got one over 2 lbs, but I'm still a jigging! that is if we ever get good ice!  ~cube~

My biggest is 15in and 1 3/4 lbs out of candlewood lake last year.  A 2lb perch is once in a lifetime unless you fish a  big fish factory- most of the guys here get excited over an 11in perch.

Around here, an 11'' perch is a beast.

My biggest(PB) was just a tad shy of 14''...Just found a sweet consistant spot for them last year so I will be looking to top that this year...Best thing is, I have this lake to myself every outing ;D

Anthony with a nice one...

Tip- uptwo,
Super nice fish there, I guess I should have mentioned that my son caught his perch at a Boy Scout camp here in New Jersey,  catch and release only, I've heard of some BIG  bluegill coming from there also. Big perch uncommon here usually, but a guy can dream!

You gotta be kidding !!!! Throw them on the ice. What a waste. We don't have the numbers of perch here so when I catch them I will usually release all the females some which have been 15 inches. Those breeders need to be put back. As far as the eagles go I saw one eating a cat on the ice the other day. I guess he was doing a little cat fish-n ;D

Wait till you see what Jig-a-whopper and JazII post, they've caught some nice ones... I too have caught a few over 2 pounds in the same fishery, I don't get nearly the numbers that JazzII and JAW get, but I've caught them none the less.

15 3/4". I had 7 proud angler Perch that day. They have to be longer than 14" to be a proud angler Perch here.

DANG! If we had perch like that in the state, I'm sure most Mainers would think twice about catching them and leaving them on the ice for the eagles!

You probably do have perch like that in your state.
Do you have any lakes with at least 30 feet of water, multiple feeder creeks, and some form of shad in them?
Just have to fish for that quality of perch a little differently, than your standard 10"-12" perch.

Absolutely, those are some gracious pigs, but I like to gloat sometimes, that where I'll be icefishing this comin weekend, all those perch would be too small and have to be release.

I'm heading to Lake Bourne this weekend, where the minimm size limit is 16 inches on yellow perch, 10 per day.  Lake Miedvie has an 18 inch minimum size limit at 5 per day and the River Plonie and Lake Dabie each have a 14 inch size limit at 10 per day.  Hopin to find some good ice on all these assive perch factories.

My biggest yellow perch to date has been a 3.5 pounder at 18.5 inches.  My guide got on at 21.5 and 5 pounds, an absolute behemouth, and at our baitshop, there is a mount of a 7 pounder on the wall.  I'll get a picture up on this post next week of what 15 pounds of perch look like when the bag limit is five, and I've set my goal to nail a 5 pounder this season.

If you guys want monster perch, go where I go - the northern Carpatian Mountains and Pomerania.

Dr. JM
My private lakes: Laurel, Gruber, Emerald complex (Mountaintop, E Emerald, W Emerald, Pine Tree, Deer, Lower Deer, Halfmoon, Hunter, Little Mountaintop), Leisure Lk, Leisure Pd, Monroe, Tego, Little Tego, Upper Spring, Pocono Summit, Blue Mountain.  I want Naomi, Paupacken, and Hallowood and I'll chase the dream called Pocono Lake
