Rod Building advice

My son and I are"experimenting" and building a couple of ice rods.   We have sanded the rod blanks t the action we want and primed them.  Will paint over the next few days.   We are using pre-made handles from Sportsman Direct.  How far down into the handles do we drill and place the rod ends?
