Lesson learned. ALWAYS get equipment ready before the season starts, If something needs attention you have time to get in shape before you need to use it.

I have a Nils WITH the drill attachment and bring just my drill -- can do hand or electric on same auger.  Less weight and clutter.

Figured I'd have to make my way north this weekend to find something to stand on but went poking holes after work and found 6" fairly local... should have thrown a rod and some mousies in truck with the auger before I left but didn't expect to find something solid. Pumped for Saturday morning. Good luck out there, be safe.

For early season fishing, when the ice is relatively thin, I just bring along the hand auger -- saves on weight and hassle...!

I got on 6" of good ice today, didn't find any fish though. Looking good so far.
