With a Hand Auger? With a Power Auger?

hand auger 12" Power auger with my friends Jiffy 30 10" before I had my own was in winter of 2001 38" we had to stop, clear the snow and ice because it was burying the motor! This is with no extension

We were out on Leech and had to run to town and buy an extension for the auger and even with the extension, the motor was sitting on the ice before we finally broke through.

First year I was into ice fishing....had a 10" hand auger and was drilling through 18"+. That really sucked!!!

Ive bottomed out both with a hand auger and a power auger before, had to chop a few inches out around with a spud where i wanted the hole so i cut cut through don't know the exact measurement but i think it was over 3 feet both times

Last year i needed to put two 12" extensions on my 10" Jiffy to get through at one of the lake we go to.

I dont know how thick it was, all I know is ChowderHead and I made the 3 and half hour trip to Simcoe one season go on the ice and it was so thick we could not get through it with my auger, so we had to find a hut opperator and rent for the day just so he would drill the holes

I only have a hand auger, up in northern michigan with a buddy, the ice was so thick we had to split each hole in two parts and we'd take turns drillin. It was over 15" cuz it was thicker then my spoon wich has a ruler built into it

Probably about 12" with a hand auger and 26' with a power auger. Wow I feel like a pansy when I see how much ice some of you other guys go through in some of the seasons you have fished!!!!!

A couple of times when stationed in NFLD, we had to chop around the hole with an axe to get the last couple of inches when using a 6" hand auger
