While perusing FB last evening, came across a video posted on “ice fishing lake Winnipesaukee”
Some loudmouth was bragging about a fat yellow perch they just caught and were yelling and screaming they had a “new NH state record YP” and you could see he had a gaff near the hole in his shack. The perch had a good poke in its belly where the gaff had been used.
Someone posted something to the extent of “ummm maybe you shouldn’t be videoing that you use a gaff while ice fishing”
5 minutes later all mentions and images of a gaff were edited out of the video...
Sometimes you just have to shake your head and wonder what else these bozos are doing out there.

Why would you need to even gaff a yellow in the first place, my girlfriend caught this one and never got a weight or measurement, she released it before I could say anything lol, was bigger then some of the bass we were catching that day, never have we needed a gaff for our perch

That’s what I’m saying...these yahoos are gaffing everything that comes into their hole....ILEGALLY! God knows what else they’re doing illegally...

I’m sure I’ve caught record contender yellow perch, it’s a yellow Perch though! Who cares! I’d be embarrassed to be known for that, it is what it is

A record yellow perch means that you might be able to feed a "record" number of cats.....unless you like eating yellow perch, then it's OK.

I get where your coming from, but I personally would submit a record for any fish..... other than fall fish, I hate those damn things when I’m ice fishing. Had way too many act like rainbows, take eggs, make good runs and then when I see them at the hole..... ugh
On a fly rod though I’ve found they’re a blast and save me a lot of skunks!

Lolllll I got a sucker a few years ago I posted on these sites that beat the record but it went back in the drink ;D

Never tried lakers. Usually try them for cusk bait but no luck really. I’ll have to give it a try. Did catch a ton of perch one day with the eyeballs.

You know it’s funny you say that. Would make sense to have tried them for Burbot but I never have. You jigging for them with fallfish or chunking it on cusk traps? You got me curious. Surprising burbs don’t take it.

But...on the flip-side, with so much social media involvement, posting and exposing these a$$hats to the appropriate authorities is a lot easier too!
