Diawa Crossfire Shortie rod reviews?
« on: Oct 13, 2019, 08:17 AM »
just saw  an ad for a 36" medium action, graphite, fast taper rod and I could not find any reviews on it. wondering if any of you have any personal experience with this rod? Thinking that it might make for a great compact open water rod fkrm a kayak of for hole hopping on the ice.

I like mine. I bought a casting version so I could mount a Zebco 101 for my youngest daughter, but I found it was just the right size for vertical jigging from Yakky Doodle.

I use a MH casting model for Laker fishing through the ice. It's held up well to 20+ lb lakers.

They were originally designed for open water...like vertical jigging or tight area casting.

how stiff is the tip of the medium power?  are these rods tubular or solid graphite? if solid, I can sand it for jigging crappie and perch

Tube build. I wouldn't sand it. My model is 301MFB. On the ice I use it with a spoon or livebait with a Venom float when going for crappie, because it can handle the not such a surprise bass or catfish. That's me and where I fish.

I fish out in the open so I try to use only rods that have big 'eyes', or guides. Unfortunately the size is rarely, if ever, specified in the on-line description. Anyone know how big they are esp the top one? thx

On my 36" casting the top is b/w 3.5mm and 4mm or 1/8" and 5/32".
