Well apparently just anybody can't go out and hammer the flats. I hit Big Bay after work yesterday and got skunked. Bunch of dink perch and 4 pickerel (2 that broke me off) was all I had to show for it. Sure was nice out there though. Ice is perfect for walking and half the thickness of mid-lake so drilling holes is no problem.

Will give it another try on Thursday. Hopefully find a few this time.

I hear you.  I had the same experience on Big Bay Sunday.  I do a lot of reading about where to find certain fish and I search the topos for possible spots but have not had very much luck yet.  I'll just have to keep putting time in and it will pay off someday.  It isn't rocket science but if it was super easy everyone would be emptying out the lake...lol.

Thanks guys for all the pics of the fish you're catching.  Nice job to you all.  It keeps me dreaming while I'm at work.  :)

Nice job on the jumbo perch Stormy ! I'm glad a few guy's have been able to find them in good numbers on Oneida. I've found them down here locally, but I have not been able to figure out the jumbo perch puzzle on Oneida this year .
I didn't want to go out there again today,it looked to be a bit to windy except maybe in a few sheltered coves, but I am hoping it will lay down by tomorrow and i can continue the search.
My boots on some ice... A line down a hole...Some fish on the screen... And a flag in the air !......Winter is Good !!

I caught a lot of eyes on the artificial eel.  Would twist your line some but very effective.. That was when there were a lot of eels in the lake.   Don`t know if an eye would know what a lamprey eel is now...

I cut a fresh hole the day before yesterday, and there was air bubbles at least 10" up from the bottom of the ice in the ice. that is telling me that when we get the warm temps the ice isn't going to last long. it will crystalize fast. the east end of the lake better brase for shock when it breaks loose. it's going to be thick ice comming a shore this year !!   Sully...

Fished  in  there   today  Sully,  think  i  was  the  last  guy  to   show  up. Didn't   fish   with  the  pack    i  only  brought  the  gas   auger  so  i   stayed out .  Landed   a  bunch  of   pickerel  and  dink  perch   early  , after  about  6  moves   i  found  some  caught  19   gills    kept  13  slobs   not  a  single  crappie  though. I   have  to  give  those  guys  who  sat  out  in  that  wind  credit, they  are  tougher  than  me.

The wind was brutal today, I had to quit because my line was blowing sideways. Hate to leave fish because to cant feel the hit. Going to try it again in the morning. The fish are as high as 3 feet from the bottom.  Bring your creepers it is slick
