I just keep watching this thread for a glimmer of hope, but it's just not happening.  Doesn't look good for Seneca Greenhead, wind won't let up.

ended up with 41 gills this afternoon. the wind got rippin pretty good out there !! then the rains came. I waited it out in my shanty. when I got a little break in the rain I made a break for it. it's getting sloppy out there. the ice is still in very good condition. I'm guessing about 3 weeks till ice out. saw some big pieces of ice floating down the river thru brewerton.   Sully...

River ice is always gonna be floating.  So long as the lake itself is still solid - and weather for the next week is above freezing during the day, and below freezing at night - and long-term forecasts are calling for that pattern to continue til mid-April.  Ice was 20" thick when I was out last weekend - likely a bit thicker now, but I don't see it getting any thicker moving forward - so I think we'll be in good shape for a while.

My burb was bigger anyways ;) I had some people try it. Then I showed them what a burbot looks like and they couldn't believe it. Try it guys! And tell everyone! I hate seeing any fish left on the ice to rot and now I really hate seeing these

Just wanted to says thanks to all who talked about and recommended the Kahtoola Microspikes many pages ago.  They are awesome! I have two herniated discs, one which is pressing against a nerve which causes numbness in right foot and weakness in the ankle. On top of that, I have not so good balance due to inner ear damage...but these spikes give unsurpassed grip and stability. Just can't believe the difference over everything else I've tried. Thanks again!

I thought about heading up to Oneida today for the jumbo perch search, but don't like the wind forecast of 20 to 30 mph, west southwest. Not much  to protect you from that wind on Oneida. Maybe tomorrow. Good luck to any of you guy's out there today.

Wet and nasty for sure pooch... can be somewhat bearable if you're not going to far and set up on 1 spot, but  it gets real miserable when you got to travel a couple miles , then make moves out there, drillin' and searchin' .

the ice he saw floating down the river is from the main lake I think. If u drive over the 81 bridge each day you will notice the area of open water getting bigger every couple of days outside the canal mouth. I agree with u that the ice should hold up pretty good.

Hardwater, I have a back problem with the same symptoms..pain down my right leg. I also use the Katoohlas, and love them, but they make my leg hurt worse. I suspect it's because there's no "give" when you walk. Food for thought.

Been down to PA this week. Got to sneak out on a little ice one day. Ended up getting some nice slabs. Got my uncle out for his second trip ever and my aunt back out for her first time in almost 30 yrs!

My uncles first fish ever through the ice!

It was awesome getting them out. Beautiful day. I will be making a trip down here again next year. Some nice slabs in this body of water. Looking forward to getting back up to New York and getting into the flats up there...
