I'm  not in that condition but I do have back issues (I was off my feet for 3 weeks again this fall) so a power auger is the way to go.  I would like to get  a good electric auger but that will be next year.

When you guys are looking for fish do you stay in one area or do you travel far to another place?? Example: Let's say im fishing a bay and im looking for fish. Do you punch holes all over the bay till you find fish or pick up and go elsewhere. How much time do you waste looking for fish before you make a move?? And if you make the move how far do you go?? Just think im doing something wrong. I have a fl8 so it's not like im fishing blind. Any suggestions or tips??

Fished yesterday. Few hours in morn and last two hours before dark. Only a few perch. Oh yeah.... Drilled lots of holes by hand yesterday with my 8 inch hand screw. My 73 year old fishing partner drilled all day with his hand screw as well. Not enough ice to be buying new power augers when my 73 year old buddy is still getting we done with the hand auger...unless disabled in some way.

;D Aren't we all, disabled in some way?  ;)  I know I am. Power auger goes out when the wheeler goes, for me.  It's just part of setup.

I'm sorry but once the ice is thick enough for my atv I'm using my power auger.

drilling through 16 inches of ice all day is the norm for me but I must say my buddy got a ion. and I must say it sure was nice being able to drill 40 holes without sweating to death and my elbow and shoulder feel great this morning! I just cant justify spending 500 bucks a new auger when my muscles work just fine. I will ssay that having a power auger makes you a lot more mobile when the ice is thick. I was fishing in Schroon lake one year and I was on my knees drilling with my handauger. lets just say I only drilled 3 holes that day and I got skunked!

For some of us, spending $500 on an auger isnt possible. Lets not turn this into an argument folks

I LOVE my nils hand auger. Just don't get the small one. Easy to drill and quiet. Easy to carry too.

Paid my dues yesterday on the ice, got dropped off at 125, then I began walking and hand drilled 19 sets of holes down through the center of shackleton til I came out the other side by 121..  I had never fished in there before on ice, just the edges and always wanted too do that walk, was surprised at how few fish live in there during the winter, my 8th hole produced 5 big smallies, 1 keeper eye and 2 perch and dumped 3 fish in about an hour..... all the rest of the moves had empty screens, I was really surprised, but I should of known better, most days I make 4 moves at most usually just 2 or 3, but I enjoyed the scouting... theres one crack working near where that wheeler went through last yr, it was wet where I walked across it, but besides that, all the other cracks are very safe.  not much too take pictures of, but heres a couple.

Those things are tough. They'll last forever. Buddy still has an older, is say '02ish, 500 that he rides year round. Changed the oil and air filter normally. Kept her clean. Not a single issue .

Way to go HT!  Bullet proof machine.  Mine that you saw yesterday is a 2000.  Love the racks, wish they made them for the scrambler.

Get it right HT.  ;)
