Chesuncook Lake House Fire
« on: Mar 17, 2018, 08:04 AM »
Just got a feed on FB, not many details but looks like they had a fire there no injuries sounds like total loss. They asked people not to ride in there.
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Just saw the post from M.F.S and the only thing left was the fireplace 2 chimneys and the cellar stones. A shame to loose such a peice of history. Hopefully they rebuild. A great resource for the area

Very sad o lose that building, which was a historical treasure. Henry David Thoreau actually stayed there once back in the late 1800s.

Hard to believe  the lack of conscience and morals that exists here now.

October update:

The Chesuncook Lake House has made application to LUPC (formerly the dreaded LURC) to rebuild. They were in front of the commission a week ago, LUPC does not want to give them a permit to sell food or fuel, claiming they did not offer those in the past.  ::) The guy who represents CLH before LUPC is asking for written support since LUPC is a political body. There is a letter you can sign on FB, and you can leave additional comments as well. If CLH is denied the permit to sell food and/or fuel a lot of hungry fishermen, hunters and snowsledders are going to be walking back to Kokadjo or Millinocket.  :'(

Is there any way to show support if you do not have Facebook?

Good question, not sure what the answer is. Perhaps call LUPC in Greenville or Millinocket and inquire as to how to submit a letter regarding a pending application. A personal, well thought out letter of support is powerful, even if submitted by email.

Try this. If this doesnt work I will find another contact for letters or emails.

Amazing they suggest they never served food or gas. Were they doing it illegally?  Ha, doubt it. Sucks you need to jump through such hoops. This will just about cut off access to the trains via sleds!

I may be wrong, but I believe that North East Carry is not operating over the winter anymore either. And Abol bridge stopped selling gas a few years ago. So without CLH the only way you'll really be able to access the Trains is via Portage and Realty Road when logging operations allow for it. Or I suppose Matagamon if you are prepared to boondock.
