Nothing picture worthy over the laker grounds but ice forming along the shoreline. Further east on the lake, The division st launch is iced up and a good portion of the shallow east lake is ice covered. We have a couple nights of -17 coming up so let’s hope for some pre New Years Lakers!

Thanks for keeping us updated on the conditions for lobo JZ.. I appreciate it. Can't wait to get out fishing.
-
Look forward to another season JZ!

Do you guys fish Dog at all in the winter? My family has a cottage there and for years I've wanted to fish it hardwater but have never had a chance to do it (I live in Rhode Island, USA)
-
I fish Dog a lot, most fish for the splake but there are crappie and panfish as well.
cheers sig

hey guys, i want to ask a question about the west side BL at Loughbrorough. But not sure if its a good idea to make it public or if will get hated on. If anyone with some knowledge on the area can pm me, maybe i could as a specific member and not make it public if it will create a problem..
thanks in advance guys

Isn't the whole point of posts like this to make info about the lake available? I get what your saying but I think info should be shared. My opinion anyway.

i see your point clearly, however, i didn't want to ask a question with specific road names and destinations. Than have it be a zoo for all the locals that live in that area for the rest of their life. Ive seen small honey holes get pulverized and destroyed at the helm of public fishing boards and groups. Say what you will, i think i did the right thing. And , thank you very much to JZ for answering my question.
-
Hey robbyc, I didn't mean to come off as complaining about your post.. i guess I was thinking more about ice conditions and reports rather than locations for catching and stuff. I certainly can see why people don't want to give up their honey holes ;D
Anyways, good luck to you.

Has anyone been on Loughborough at the south end off of Sydenham (LOUGH DR.) to fish and if so how is the ice?
I would think it should be fishable by now...
-
I will give it a look today and post some pics, it was still open water on the 26th but I think should be ice over now
-
There was a guy fishing out there shallow yesterday morning, I wouldn't say he was any deeper than the 20-30 foot range. The lake only has a skim of snow on the ice so it should be making ice alot better than the ones with all this snow on them
-
The west end is now locked up as far as the eye can see. It’s one day old ice over the laker grounds 40-120fow so it will be another day or two before I start poking holes out there.

Well in no rush at this end if fish-able might show up on Sat. but truly looking to fish it on Wed or Thurs that will be my availability time next week. Tight lines and stay safe no-one needs a cold bath.
Thanks JZ
-
Likely no snow on it was there JZ? If not should make some good ice over next few days
-

Just a dusting of snow and the temp on the truck was -30 so it should be making some hard black ice.
-
Good good. Should make getting around a little easier as well. Not having to wade through all the snow.
-

I think that half of my past trips to Lobo included trekking through 12-20"s of snow whether it was down the hill and off of the beach or the south launch.
-
If the weather holds like this for a week like it's saying it's going to we should be golden.
-
I like the sounds of this, only a dusting of snow. Maybe ill check it out next week
-
seen some who wandered out there today right in front of the launch... don't know how deep they where
-
Somebody out there today over what I would guess is 40-55 fow
-
seen some sled tracks yesterday going across.. do not know how much ice is out there
-
Went out at 11 for a couple hours didn’t mark anything. Talked with a few groups that went out earlier, 2 got nothing one other group got 2. Ice was good I set up in 83 fow on 5” of black ice. I got lazy and stayed in my hut in the one spot the whole time which didn’t up my odds but it was cold! Might give it another shot tomorrow depending on how many drinks I have tonight. Happy New Year
Jon
-
Thanks for the update Jon, I work tomorrow and Tuesday so if all goes well I might be able to hit the ice on Wed. You going on at the South Launch?
-
Any updates on Loughborough?
-
Nothing from me, I was planning on a trip there yesterday or today but the truck is in the shop( tie rod ends and oil.) Next time for me will not happen until at least Tues. work nights this weekend.
-
Drove by Loughborough Dr. today, there was probably 5-6 people out there, including a clam hut that had to be over 100 FOW, it's gotta be good to go. I'm going out Sunday, I'll report what I find.
-
Was out yesterday from about 9-1. Stayed to the right of the public launch. Did not measure but was a solid 5-6 black ice. There were lots of people out but did not see much action. One guy was leaving when I arrived and had one. Another said he was skunked, as was I.
-
I have been seeing people out there everyday since the 31st, Ive been out as far as 90-100fow with 5-6 inch of ice that was about a week ago. Someone brought a perm hut out and parked it over the shallows. I saw some skidoo tracks but havent seen any ATVs out there yet, Iam sure there will be lots of people out this weekend with ATVs and sleds.

Hello everyone,
New to the forum and relatively new to Ontario ice fishing. All my ice fishing has been in New Brunswick. We just moved to Ontario 2 yrs ago, about 45 min south of Ottawa. I have been Ice fishing Hoople Creek which is close by my place for perch and pike.
This year I want to explore some different water and try for different species. Unfortunately NB doesn't offer the variety of species that Ontario does. There are no walleyes, pike or crappie in NB. Lake trout are extremely hard to find, I think that is due to no stocking program in NB. There is none...
Anyway enough of me going on... Google says I am 2 hours drive from Loughborough Lake. I am NOT looking for anyone's honey holes I can drill holes and try to find my first Laker. You probably can't tell from reading this but I am sooooo pumped to try for a Laker. See rambling again.
What I am looking for is a place on the lake where there is public access and parking.
From this area, do you have to walk a long ways to a good spot? Not as young as I use to be so have to plan ahead. Travel light because I'm pulling or don't worry take the wheeler. lol
What are the snow conditions on the ice? I know big storm this weekend but I'll have an idea before the storm hits.
Can a wheeler go on the ice right now? Ice thickness and snow depth. Wheeler has no tracks
I have read white tubes and smelts. Is there a spot to buy smelts around the lake?
Thanks everyone for reading. sorry about the rambling.
Stay safe
And remember to cross their eyes

Welcome Tony
I am a resident on the lake and have not seen an atv on the deep water yet but I was out on shaallower stuff (earlier freeze) yesterday. Should be good to go but again, I wait to see others first. I fished the deeper stuff a week ago and it was only 5" but Im sure its grown since then. I am sure by the end of the weekend you will see more replies here. Best access is far east end ,Loughborough drive off Sydenham rd where I am located and have full view of the far east end. I personally use white tubes, and rattle baits but some of the locals also use frozen smelt from the grocery store. Moving around in my opinion is the ticket to find fish although others just park themselves and wait. Good luck on your venture..once it warms up a bit, you wont have a hard time seeing where to go as there will be huts all over.
Good Luck
Rick

Not get enough sleep on your night shift?? You live on the WEST end. Everything else he said was right tho. ;D
-
Oops..yup sorry. West end. Just got up lol
-
10” of ice over 60-85 fow. Saw one Atv out there today. Lots of people out today spoke with a few groups only heard of 1 fish on the ice. I fished from 8:30–11:30 marked a few but nothing interested in my baits. Can’t wait until temps return to normal and I fish outside and search for active fish.
-
Was that you out on the ATV blitzing holes in that same depth this morning?
-
no wasnt me, I was walking on Sunday but going forward it will be bike time for sure.
-
I am hoping to try Loughborough Lake in the near future. I have never been there but a friend pointed it out to me recently as a lake to try.
How is the parking like off Sydenham road? I haul a trailer with my ATV and fishing gear inside and wonder what is like.
I am considering a weekday trip so as not to trip up the regulars.
-
There will be sufficient parking for your rig mid-week along Loughborough road next to the lake.
-
That was me blitzing holes yesterday on the atv. New toy so hard to sit still..lol...and wasn't marking much anywhere. a buddy of mine was marking though and got 2.

Hey Rick I was out yesterday for 2 hours, iced one about 3 lbs, lost 3 and one was a tank , i didn't get a good look but the guy who was helping said it was at least 9lbs. Marked a bunch but hard to get a strike, had to really piss it off before it hit. Looks like the weather might be an issue for the next few days as well....
Tim
-
ya it looks pretty wet on top today. waterproof boots and cleats would be the way to go until we get some snow.
-
Thinking of heading over for an afternoon fish, how is the ice with all the water and rain?
-
havent been out there in a few days, it was 10" of black ice then. Its pretty wet so rubber boots would be good, also stay away from the incoming creek
-

How did you make out?
-
Well I did mark a few I fished for about an hour and a half and caught zip. If you hear of a guy out on the ice walking 1/2 a km from the ramp to the cottages/home on the south east end of the lake to get his frabil commando (that the wind took) it was me, I mean not me....lol
Ice was down to 8.5" of good hard black ice with 1/2 inch of water on top(where I was) for the most part and 2-3 "s of water by the shoreline at the ramp when I got there. In just the 2 hours I was there the water on top was crystallizing and the only water was at the ramp. Weather permitting I will likely be back over the weekend. I drive a 2005 Ford Escape with an antenna on the roof and a amateur radio call sign VE3IVU on the back window. Fished about 100 yards north east of the perm hut on the ice and in 40' of water.
-
Although I didnt see you I got word from a neighbour you were out there as she thought it was me..lol. Good to know its still safe out there. Should be a crowd this weekend
-
Anyone out today? Very slushy still?
-
The ice is intact but there's a thin crust with water underneath and 20cm of snow on top. I was out between 2pm and 5 pm. There's 8 to 10 " of ice.
-
Heading out there tomorrow morning is my plan, I will have my Ford Escape on land and I will likely be using the Eskimo 3i and not the Commando tomorrow.
-
Thanks everyone for the replies. I wont be out this week. But am planning on going next week. What are the snow conditions on the lake. I was at Hoople Creek yesterday very hard walk towing the flip over. You would have a hard time with a wheeler trying to get through the snow drifts.
Good luck everyone.

Was out today with the wife for 2 hours, managed 1 and lost 3,
Tim
-
How thick was the ice Tim?
-
Measured 10 inches in 86 fow, 4 inches of fluffy snow on top
Tim
-
Sweet! Might go out on the bike tomorrow. Any bad areas to watch out for?
-
Well geez Tim you were fishing my hole I was on this morning!!!! LMAO!! That was me on the quad and your welcome for the spot and the fish!!! I knew they were there...just couldnt get them to go. I wasnt going far from there. Just came in for lunch ya bugger!! Probably watching me and waited till I was gone!! LOL. Sorry to crowd ya. Good job!!
Rick

Hey Rick
Funny, thought it might be you as I didn't see any trailers on shore, didn't recognise the suit. I was with the wife , her first time out on the lake so sorry I didn't come over to say Hi. I usually hit the same area as well and you weren't crowding, just explained to the wife that usually people spread out unless they know the area and want to stick to grounds they know (mentioned you might be a local) ... She really enjoyed it too, just bought a new frabil 2 man which I have to put together so we can get out more. Oh and thanks for keeping the fish on point, there are still a few more in that spot too....lol

Digem1 , I didn't see any wet spots in the snow, might want to stay away from the creek area though just incase, other than that it looked fine where I was too....
-
Thanks, Tim. Might take a run down there tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be nice. Will be out in quickfish 3 & red grizzly.
-
Tim...that spot we were at was really really wet!!!!! lol.JKG. Great job and good to see the wife out. Maybe we should hook up and she can talk mine into going out. If you need a hand with the hut Id be glad to help you out. im off the next two days...and maybe on that spot!!!! LMAO!!
-
Went out for 2.5 hrs today marked lots of fish and managed to go 1 for 2. Fish I lost was on 4” white tube one I landed was on 2” pearl jigging shad rap. Both fish were small but saw some guys get some nice keeper size Lakers out there. Fish seemed to be everywhere I fished from 44 to 89 fow and marked pretty consistently.

Just coming off nights at work today, have a mandatory meeting at 6 tomorrow morning in Trenton. Hoping to be on the road by 9 and fishing by 11.
Give a shot in the 80 ' range out by the ramp if you are around pop by. Eskimo 3i and a strikemaster electric.

No update to be had, went to my meeting and was out by 9 as planned. Only made it as far as Shannonville before this cold/flu bug turned me around to go home. Been in bed all day....sucks.
-
Anyone ever try for Lakers after dark? Just wondering if they bite at night.

Ive tried a couple times but didnt have any luck
-
Heading over to Lobo tomorrow anyone having luck lately?
-
Marked 5 or 6 bumped one. During this trip I will attest to the fact that no fish were caught or injured during this venture. Saw one clam shelter and one Eskimo shelter when i arrived. I planted the second Eskimo to the southwest of the others and fished 62 ft. of water. Took a bit to get off the ice, pinched nerve in back last week so I believe i took 5-6 breaks just getting off the ice.

I'm hoping to get out there next week. Can you tell me approx. what the ice thickness was? Just wondering if I should bring my atv.

Did not dip for depth but in the cove area that I was on I would have no issues on stating 12-14 inches.

Thanks, I will be sure to report back with hopefully some good luck.

Not sure if anyone here has been out lately but work and sore back kept me off the water for the past 3 weeks. If you have been out in the last few days maybe you can shed some light on the condition of Lobo either at the south west ramp or Davidson. Thinking of a trip out there in the morning.
-
I would advise extreme caution on Loughborough. I went out yesterday late afternoon at the southwest launch. The ice has holes from the rain and thin spots. The thickness was inconsistent and the surface was mushy. If someone is going to fall through, it will be during the next week. As far as the bite, typical for Feb. I didn't drill any holes, just trolled around between existing holes. I found one hole with consistent active fish (follower every few minutes) but they were non-committal. I washed all my lures in front of them, they even rejected a live minnow.
-
Yep I figured as much so I stayed off the ice and went to North Country Marine and bought a new trailer for the boat....lol....do not keep fish and go fishing, do not go fishing so buy a trailer.
