Over the past few seasons I have been mixing up the beverages that I carry in a thermos....this year a buddy filled one up with campells beef broth, it kept great, stayed hotter then coffee and hot chocolate and was semi filling like a small meal....what do you guys take in your thermos?

Coffee so thick that you need a knife to spread it on your toast  I also bring a cooler for my "recreational beverages" ;D
If I'm out for an over nighter I learned two years ago to bury my cooler in the snow so that my supplies don't freeze!!
-
Black Russian!!!

Here's a real good "hot-tody" my brother in law makes:
1 gallon apple cider
1 large frozen cocentrate orange juice
cinnamon and cloves
Capt. Morgans spiced rum
slowly bring cider and OJ concentrate to a boil with cinnamon and cloves.
Add Rum...

How much cinnamon and clove? and as stupid as a question as this may be, how much rum?

-
Hot apple cider or Hot chocolet for the kids.
Mint tea for me....
-
In answer to jr the dj's question, seems like brother in law uses about a dozen cloves and 4 to six cinamon sticks, we put the rum in seperatley so the kids can enjoy it too.

100 proof SoCo, really warms you up when its bitter cold out and always lightens your spirits on a bad day. Also for some reason the fish bite better after the first beer.

all the fish in my area prefer to bite while i am opening my beer or taking a slug off of it while i am holding my rod with my left hand, so i usually spill my beer on myself, miss the fish, and curse it, the world, and myself profusely before starting the whole process again.
-
Apple cider boiled with two handfuls of cinamon red hots and a bottle of blackberry brandy.
-
Nothing but hot coffee, nice and black and extra strong. MMM MMM GOOD! ;D
-
I take whatevers in the pantry, thats none achoholic. Hot chaud, Hot jello is good, a good ministrone soup, however if i take soup, i take the ready to eat soup IN the can. Put a hole in the top, and heat it on my personal heater(Colman Cadalatic Heater). mmmm Fresh Hot Soup the best.
Been Out a few times and all i seem to be doing is cleaning up BEER CANS AND BOTTLES, and drunks garbage.
Remember to clean up after Yourself, Respect your prey, and the land it comes from, and you will be blessed by Mother Nature.
Keep It Real
Peace Out
-
Hot apple cider with some Makers Mark Bourbon ;D

I normally just have coffee, but if its an afternoon trip I'll bring a few of my friends...blue and light
-
It has to be Fresh brewed coffee with Baileys even the fish jump out to get some :o ;D
-
Baileys and hot chocolate... or a good thermo of black coffee. Nothing like drinking that first cup of coffee while sitting on the ice watching the sun come up.

OK OK....no one make fun of me on this one...it's a little foofoo:
There is this gourmet soup my wife gets from these home parties she goes to. I was looking through her mixes and saw this cream of esparagus with white cheddar. Now, I also had some scallops in the freezer. So here the simplicity that made is appeal to me. You mix the soup with water so I premeasured out the water in a bottle to make the pack...as you boil the water (on a coleman or at home or whatever) you can put the scallops in there little vacuum-sealed bad in the with the boiling water for about 3 minutes. Remove the scallops, add the soup mix then open bag and add the scallops and simmer for a little while. I kind of like cheffing it up on the ice. I cook breakfasts and deer sausage and stuff...eggs and the works. It's fun to watch the look on peoples faces when you walk over with a nice plate of hot food...and it's about as easy to cook for 10 as it is 1 person. And you make friends fast!!! Never know when you might need a few more waxies...
God now I really want to fish and I'm hungry for sausage and eggs....work sucks.

Nothing like drinking that first cup of coffee while sitting on the ice watching the sun come up.
And watching the flags come up as well.
-
Where could someone get a bottle of that Ice Hole Schnapps???
-
Buy mine at the grocery store liqueur department. Only 2 of them in town carry it. 13 bucks a bottle. I just picked up another one 15 minutes ago actually. Ask at your local booze joint,I am sure they can order it for you.

Moderation and take your emptys off the ice. Been picking up a lot of beer cans this year.
-
anybody that just dumps their crap on the ice needs to have their heads adjusted... i pick up trash too. it's ridiculous how easy it is just to pack it out though, instead of just tossing it for someone else.
-
Used to be a green bottle, With the name DeKKuyper on it, but now it's coffee, but I like the idea of beef broth!!!
-
jim beam in my thermos, no wait thats my flask ;D
-
carry hot water in mine so i can have coffeee or soup in a cup.
-
4 cups French roast coffee with ½ cup of Frangelico, an Italian hazelnut liqueur. It is only 24% alcohol to begin with and add it to the coffee and it is even less. If you smell it can’t even tell there is booze in it. Tastes like hazelnut coffee but it cheers you up a little when the fishing is slow. ;D
-
Baileys and I think about the coffee as I drive by Dunkin , on a good day its Tullamore Dew ! ;) ;) ;)
-
good old hot coffee..... light and sweet..
soup is in the backpack to be heated at a later time
-
screamin hot water and about six hot dogs stuffed in there! ;D
-
Crown and ginger ale. About the pigs that leave trash, we don't have that problem too much here in Montana, but when I do find it I pick it up.
-
Paul,
You just reminded me of a ice fishing trip to Nippising a couple years ago. Spent time parting with some guys from Canada (cottage nextdoor) Care to elaborate on the different labels of Wisners,Gibsons and MGD.(?)
Guys this is some of smoothest whiskey you'll ever drink.
-
Wisers DeLuxe whiskey is almost the best whiskey ever hahaha Alot of people have never tried it but they really should!!! Its good stuff
-
10-4 on the Wisers Deluxe, Lotwfisher, it's been my favourate for years. I was introduced to a drink here not to long ago while trying to fish, and it's called Sambuca, be carefull, it will knock your boots off
-
Ya sambuca can be harsh. We do shots of it...but you hold the shot in yur mouth then light it with a light then breath out lightly and have someone sprinkle cinnamon into your mouth and it sparkles hahaha oh gosh u have to be drunk to do it!!! ahah and on another note....if someone is taking pictures make sure the camera is ready or your mouth can be a little burnt and sore the next few days...not talking from experience or anything.. ;) ;) ;)

I think I'll pass, fire and booze just don't mix.
-
Hot Chocolate with a touch of peppermint schnapps in the thermos and a flask of Oberguetz (some call it a snoeshoe - I mix it 3/4 brandy and 1/4 peppermint).
-
Black Coffee. Got to stay awake for night ice fishing.
-
screamin hot water and about six hot dogs stuffed in there! ;D
now that is something I have not thought of  :roflmao:   :roflmao:
I will remember that this season. I have a widemouthed thermos that I believe will be perfect for brats will onions!
Of course the other thermos usually has coffee along with chunks and pieces of whatever was in the thermos the last time I used it. I've been using it for 20 years and I'm afraid to think of what could be growing in there

hot apple cider is my favorite
-
No Thermos, but a coffee pot on the woodstove early in the AM. Bud or Budlight a bit later, after working up a sweat....usually around 10am local (it's past 12 somewhere in the world). Heck, I've already been up and on the ice at least several hours by then. Plus, Bud Light goes great with scrambled eggs and bacon!

-
hot coffee in one and venniso chili in a stainless wide mouth. have yet to try it but a buddy cooks up bratwurst an sourkraut and puts ib his then packs buns in the beer cooler
-
I'm with Viper 75 hot water then i can mix with instant soup, spiced cider ,etc. or make a cup of decaffeinated /herbal tea. I never thought about the caffeine until reading one of the "Hooked on Ice Fishing " series of books . Caffeine like alcohol is a diuretic and excessive urinating can lower your body temp. in cold weather.
Another nice drink is Glogg (Swedish- Scandinavian ) I use a premade mix from a company called Saturnus . You mix one to one with hot water or vodka ,rum or red wine if not using hot water heat without bringing to a boil.
saturnus AB, Box 9040, 200 39 Sweden/Suede
website www.saturnus.se
there is an umlaut (.. ) over the o in Glogg and e in suede. the members from Minnesota and Wisconson can propably tell you more. Steve
-
To update my previous post the product is called export Glogg and the ratio is two parts glogg mix to one part water. Enjoy , have a good summer.

-
Black Coffee :)
-
soup or hot chocolate
Another for the soup and Hot chocolat!
-
Either Hot Cider Or- Super cheap gas station cappunico...the expensive stuff isnt sweet enough...I figure I will switch over to coffee when I can grow a mustache. lol
-
well lets see here, i have one for chilly , one for soup, two for coffee, and one i keep empty were i can have filled at will. on these days i can cut back on the gear i will bring, stoves, spare fuel tanks , canned food, garbage, exc..... you must invest in good thermouses though. if you don"t have a good thermos, your goods WILL get cold.
-
if you don"t have a good thermos, your goods WILL get cold.
Or it will crack on ya...I have learned ::) ::) :D
-
ain:t that the truth tip-uptwo. the cost can add up . i have learned to spend the extra money because it will save you lots of headackes.
-
and itl keep yah nice and warm!!
-
Going to try this in the thermos this year. What I did for winter camping last year was fill a small crockpot about 3/4 full w/ apple juice and put in several shots of Jack daniels, added a few broken cinn. sticks and let simmer. This was awesome  What a drink to sip around a campfire in Jan. in a foot of fresh snow ;D
-
sounds like the ticket to keep warm. i don:t drink anymore so i resort to much coffee.
-
Nothing is better than having a hot cup of coffee after coming off the ice at the end of the day. Especially the days when it's cold and dark and snowing. Sure helps warm a person up on the drive home.
-
usually if i bring a thermos its hot chocolate for the beginning of the day then i bring my cooler full of either a 30 of busch light or a 24 of coors light...makes for a good time when the bite is slow or when the bite is on...
-
i don:t bring hot cocoa in the thermos, i make while i am on the ice. i put other good stuff in the thermoses.
-

There is only one thermos in this world worth buying.
The original Stanley thermos. I have one that's more than 30 years old. You can't hurt them.
RG
-
RG, I agree totally. I've had mine about 10 years and haven't been able to hurt it yet...
-
i saw the stanleys at fleet farm but they were out of the largest size. ill pick one up next time
-
One tip;
Fill the thermos with very hot water and let it stand for about 5 minutes before putting your beverage of choice in it. It makes a lot of difference...hours.... in how long it stays hot.
My first Stanley(stolen on a job site) had a cork....I'm giving away my age :)
By the way, I almost always take beef or vegetable bullion. Sometimes I add a bit of instant rice for extra body.

http://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/ (http://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/) here is the website for the stanley thermos'....they even sell parts for your old used and abused thermos....my old man has one that hes got a grip on it so tight you couldnt pry it from his hands with a chain hooked to a semi  i have a Thermos brand thermos but i really dont like it...and i have a cheap stainless steel traverling coffee mug but i just bought it cuz i was in dire need...it wasnt worth it i think im gonna buy a new thermos and coffee cup before the ice season hits!
-
I've got the original Stanley Thermos and i is the best i take it out when i go hunting and everytime on the ice ;D
-
my stanley is still serving me at 15 years old . working quite well i might add.
-
i have 2 i take with me.
if im gonna be out all day and into the night my large thermos has coffee, mid sized has home made chicken soup or chili in it.
-
chicken and seafood Gumbo ;D
-
always black coffee
-
95% of the time just coffee. Once in a while hot chocolate if the grand kids are out.
-
2 of them stanley thermoses. Both are over 30 years old they are beat dented and ugly but they still keep the coffee hot.
-
Hot thick black coffee; the longer it stays in thethermos the darker and thicker it gets.
Probally eats the lining of my stomach; but I am caffeine addicted !!
-
