The Long Lake Derby
« on: Nov 17, 2022, 06:46 PM »
I'm going this year for the first time. It's been on the bucket list. Looks like a great time. Just wanted to post this random thought since I have read through all the old posts from last year.

Im heading up with my old man jrelaxin so the travel is good story time. My goal is a good time and catch a fish. I'm looking forward to it. I don't know what to expect. Sounds good to me though.

Already riding full plus. Sorry man. I'd keep my eyes open though I'm sure someone here will be able to.

Where abouts are you located in southern Maine?
Fishing is easy. Catching is the hard part.

I'm not going to the derby.
I'm in the Sebago area. And thanks for the offer anyway.

Is there any online registering for the derby? Everything I have seen is mail a entry or pay when you get there.

I really wanna fish Long lake, mostly for yellow perch and a possible serious salmon, but 4 hrs and 16 minutes is a long ride. May try to make it up there for a couple day trip. Probably before the derby... Not really a derby guy...   ;D :icefish:

I am from down south but have fished Long Lake probably 10 times.  I never fished the derby, but was there the day before it started a couple years ago.  If you get in the right place there can be lots and lots of yellow perch.

Salmon, I have caught some nice salmon but it can be pretty slow at times.  There are some really huge ones in the lake, but be prepared for slow....

Biggest thing to remember is it is a big lake that gets very cold be safe!

Yep!!! I'd be after YP. Would make a few salmon sets to break things up between jigging up a pile of perch! Scalloper gave me some clues for the perch. Looks like decent salmon structure nearby.

If you want big slabs of perch...I recommend cross over any of the fish river chain of lakes. I've pulled multiple 16 inch yellows from there

RC,
I don't  think I'll  make the derby. If I get over to The County on the sled this season, I'm stopping by.

Tipman knows Cusk. I know I say it every year but this is the year I do an all-nighter cusk mission with you guys. I know I said the same thing last year.......So I won't be fishing for any Muskie but I defenitly want to see one. Can you get to the Muskie weigh in by sled from Long Lake? Dumb question I'm sure but I have never been up there.
