walking on hard water!
« on: Dec 27, 2012, 07:53 AM »
Went out yesterday afternoon. I found that the ice was 3 1/4". It was good clear ice with a dusting of snow. We caught some very nice crappies and some 8-9" gills. I got to try out my new lx 5 as well. What a perfect way to start the season!

Hey all! Been out the past few days on numerous smaller lakes and ponds. Most of the ice is at least 3.5" with the largest being 4" and thinnest being 2.3/4" (Quad City area).  Yesterday I had a pretty good haul of crappies, kept about ten, three of them were 11". Went out this morning and caught a beautiful smaller walleye out of 25 ft of water (What a blast that was). Unfortunately I will be gone this weekend from fishing, for family time. I will be headed back to Macomb on Monday for those of you looking for Argyle reports I will update then.

Went out this afternoon and caught some more 8-9" Gills with a few big crappies in the mix. There was also a couple of bass to. Everything went back down the hole. I may keep a few tomorrow. The crappies all go back. We stocked the lake two years ago with 100 10" crappies and we r getting some 6-8" crappie so I want them to spawn one more time before we start eating some. Trying to find some new spots to hit but the ice just isnt ready for the places south we were going to go.

The haul from yesterday.

Today was 3-4 times as many kept.  Winter is harvest time.

The setup.  Note bag of fish.

One of several Pumpkinseeds caught.  Most were rather small.

Locals can't catch crappie cause they are a vexless society.

They got bigger as darkness fell and they repeatedly bit the fly till caught.

Hey PRAYFORICE, is Argyle SP even open for fishing? All the roads to the lake are closed today. I didnt walk down to the lake but you sure cant drive close to it.
