Post by: akj8909 on Dec 19, 2014, 12:56 PM
Ive heard that its not legal to jig through the floor of an ice shack. Is there any truth to this or what?

Not true at all. What you can't do is set 5 traps and jig a 6th line. As long as you don't exceed the # of lines allowed, you are fine

I could be wrong, but I think shacks just need to be 100+ yds from shore on Wassokeag.  That was brought on many years ago, probably late 80's because of the villages to get smelt were not so respectful of trash, etc.  And that is the town water supply.  I believe the 100yd rule applies to portables also, but not sure.

Some towns and cities have that kind of an ordinance if the lake is their municipal water supply.

For instance, Ellsworth prohibits any holes in the floor of ice shacks. It was explained to me a few years ago that they consider an iceshack with a hole in the floor to be a toilet! How about that ......

I have a hardside shack.   I have  3 holes in my shack , 2 for jigging and one for my underwater camera. I once and awhile set a out side trap if the weather is nice out.  I just like to jig inside the shack and it does not matter what the weather is outside.
