Church - You still using ol' reliable out there for catchin?
Do the perch still have them black specks in the meat. Caught walleye all summer and never saw single one in their meat.

Yes, still just using the perch eye.  The hawger has worked good, but have used a perch talker also.  As for the black spots, they are still
evident, but I would say not as bad as in the past years.

It seems just parts of the South side are producing large number of perch, while other areas are almost skunking people.  Not sure about
the North end, as it has been 6 weeks or more since I have tired it.

The past 2 weeks feel like March, but we still have to get through Feb.

I've been seeing some black spots in my jack now too, not just perch. I'm told they are harmless. Freezing them destroys the parasite and they are also destroyed in the cooking process.

Is it an indication the fish aren't as healthy?

I caught a perch the other day that was so infested the black spots were showing all over on the outside of the fish. I don't let a few of those parasites bother me in terms of cooking and eating the fillets, but that specimen had me thinking "Whoa, you are definitely going back down the hole".

No "speckled" perch today, just lots of action. It is a pretty good day when you drill three holes at the start and never have to leave the first one you try.

I wonder how many today conquered the challenge of getting up the north boat launch? Three attempts in 2WD, 4WD, and low range 4WD were all unsuccessful. Good thing nobody was following close behind as I slid ingloriously down the hill with futile brake lights leading the way.

If the south launch gets as icy, it could make things pretty interesting......

Very nice day on the Strap today.  Steady action starting at 9:30 up until about 3, then it slowed down.

Ha!

Thanks for the posts and updates on launch conditions. Haven't been out for a few weeks but sounds like I won't waste my time on north end. Church, don't let one sour apple deter you from posting as there are lots of people like me who actually like hearing of other fisherman's success.

Tight lines everyone!

Thanks Double.

I used the South launch going on today, and the North one coming off.  The North one isn't icy anymore, so it is good to go.  If you are moving a shack on, the South launch isn't very wide...North one has more room.  The ruts aren't bad at all on both of them.

been going back a few years on ice shanty enjoying the reading looking at pictures and noticed a couple things. 1.perch are very abundant. and 2. most importantly your the last person that i would want advice on about safe conditions on the lake.

Hows the lakes visibility this year? Is it staying pretty clear or starting to brown up?

What's Bussy's problem? Just here to fight with other anglers? Take off. Super unnecessary, let's try and be mature.

Sparks, I was just saying to my fishing buddies the other day,  that the water is very clear this winter.  That is on the South end....haven't drilled a hole on the North end in over 6 weeks.  Did notice last year the brownish water in certain areas on the South end, but really clear so far this year.

Howdy all!

Sheesh, school has been so busy I've only been out once this season. Got skunked, too!

Looking to head out on Thursday I think. Probably south end. Perch bite is good right now? Launch isn't too rutted up?

Hope y'all have had a lovely January! Time flies.

Made it out both days this weekend. Saturday was dynamite but Sunday was super slow. Funny how that works.

Made it out today and fished the South end.  The morning was pretty steady, and then they shut down around 1.  I knew 3 groups that were fishing in the same area (in about a 300 yard distance), and after visiting with them, found out that the bite was on in the morning for them, but slowed down in the afternoon also.  Only a few were over 10 inches, so 90% of the fish went back.

Went out Tuesday and first holes we drilled by north launch were very murky, we moved 100 yards northwest and water was very clear. Between 2:30-3:00 we landed 8 perch, but all went back in to grow a bit. Beautiful day to be out.

Not many out for a Saturday on the South end today.  Perch were light biting today...tons of them on the flasher and camera, just weren't hungry.  Still had enough action to keep us busy, and it was a  very nice day out there.

Just wondering if anyone is driving on in the north end? I'm considering fishing the derby with my son but if we can't drive on I'm just wondering how far we might have to walk. The only time I fished the derby it was right out from shields and a super nice day out. If there isn't good access would they do it closer to the north dam? Thanks for any info!

They always have the pancake breakfast in the town hall.  For people walking out from the town hall, it isn't that far.  Just a little South East of the hall.  About 1/2 of the people walk out and 1/2 drive out.

The morning bite was very good today, then decided to do some exploring South of Evans Road.  I wasn't excited as Columbus when he saw land.  Ended up in double digits, but not one over 7 inches.  Tried 5 different spots both on the East and West side.  I can't recommend anyone going South of Evans Road, unless you want to get away from the crowd.
