Weekday, Weekend report and derby weekend fish

Been hitting it hard the last 2 days cold windy tough walking conditions. Snows not very deep but theres this crust that you break through with every step. The smitty drags ok but waking was slooowww and tough with every step breaking through.  Went cusking Thursday night, we didnt get any cusk but a few Lakers that we released.  The smelt came in thick and we could see them directly under our holes and on the flasher. Ordered bbq from a cool place in center harbor. Food was pricey. But good.  I recommend it. Sat I had plans with the lady so went for a short trip to one of my go to wp spots. Got 2 wp on a jig and one on a tip up.  One was a dink but was bleeding, the other 2 were fatties.  Made the most of my limited time and had the entire lake to myself. Today we hit the big lake and explored new waters.  Fishing was slow but did manage one fat winni wp on a jig. Covered some new spots that definitely looked fishy. Will be going back there again soon. Had lotsa chasers but no takers. I think the bite was off today. Left early and made fish stock and chowder.  I'll report later how it turned out.  Derby weekend I was only able to fish Saturday.  Targeting big yp, bows and picks. Managed 2 decent yp the one that was a contender was looking good as a board contender but Bled alot and was afraid the weight loss was too much. Still had fun . But would have liked to weight it before it bled out, she was a  fatty for sure. Will report back on wp chowder later as it's my first time making it.

Thanks.  I need invest in a small digital scale.  I  didn't bother weighing it or making my way to the derby HQ because it was bleeding.  Looking at sundays numbers I wish I had weighed it just as a reference.

Nice report...That crusty snow with slush under can be a heart pounder for sure....especially when your cruising around on a wheeler and all of a sudden you drop into a slushy mess...
Gotta love a good fish chowder...
