laker location?
« on: Jan 22, 2016, 08:02 AM »
Morning boys.  I want to target some lakers, and I've never done it before.  I'd like to do it with both tipups and jigging - but my question is on where to fish?  I don't have a flasher.  Would anyone be willing to look at this depth chart and talk a little about the location that might be best?  This is a sping fed lake, pretty small, and usually one of the last to freeze in our area.  There are some brooks flowing in where I catch rainbows, if thats at all relevant.  I'm thinking its not, and maybe the saddle between the 2 deep spots might be where I start?

Here are my favorite spots on your map.
The islands are really good looking pieces of structure.
Start at the red X's but explore others sections of the structure.
OH, and let me know how you make out.  ;D

what is the forage base?

If it is something pelagic like shad or smelt, I would concentrate on the large mid-depth flats, like the large area of 50'-60' water to the east of the hump in the middle.

If the forage base is something like ciscoe or perch, then structure is more important, and I would go with the spots Drifter suggested.

those in-fisherman articles are good, i might have had a hand in writing some of them  ;)

To be honest, I'm not sure.  The rainbows that I've caught have been full of crafish and bugs.

Good advice...I have a lot to learn...
