For year round use here in CO I'd have to go with a Trout Magnet. I've fished ponds, lakes, stream, rivers and caught all manner of trout, panfish, LMB & SMB, walleye, wiper,saugeye-you get the idea. And they seem to produce as well as anything on the ice too-Brian

On the ice -  I like a small yellow jig (with multiple streamer tail -- not solid) tipped with shrimp.

Hi,

Started 3 years ago using those Kodiak Pendulum Ice Jigs (Much like a Hali but with better action and colors + glow) with a 2-3 inch floro, with quick snap, dropper (both ends and use appropriate size hook for what I after) baited.

Also the only lure I use now for Perch is the "Smackin Jack Lures" .....No bait needed.....That's right No bait needed.
Works great on Crappies also!

Swedish pimple is tough to beat, but the last two years there is one jig that I haven't had to change.  A demon jigging spoon.  We can use two poles in Montana, I haven't taken the demon off the one pole for two years, doesn't seem to matter what lake i'm on or species I'm fishing for, catches them all, with regularity.

Thanks for all the replies and keep them coming.  When the trout are cruising around and feeding I think they'll hit a variety of lures and options but sometimes the bite can get tough.  I think tipping with bait is a must.

Silver flutter spoon.  A 3 inch Sutton in hammered silver on one side and brass on the other side.  Works best without any bait.  Unfortunately, Sutton no longer makes lures so I will have to find something very similar.  Not for brook trout under 12 inches.

What size and colour Demon Jigging Spoon do you prefer?  Do you add any bait?  Do you switch to a single hook when using bait?

Some people say that if you've caught one fish you've caught them all. I say that if you've caught one fish, you want to catch them all!

I used to use a Shrimpo or a Ratso in pink or orange tipped with Raw shrimp.
Now I make my own round heads and add grub tails to them and that would now be my one lure.
Probably if only choosing one size it would be 1/16 oz.
Use Raw uncooked shrimp for best results. Do not use cocktail shrimp. Unless you like loosing shrimp.
Raw stays on the hook much better. I cut it up at home into small pieces and put it into baggies. One baggie per person so everybody can bait their own hooks.
