Hey guys, my one of my preseason projects included building a handmade panfish rod. (I started with a blank) I mostly fish in a shanty so the size of the rod and reel matters. I dont know what kind of reel to buy. I was thinking the Pfluger President Micro, only because I use the regular reel on my open water rod. I know I would be buying a nice reel, but what do you guys use or prefer? Thanks for your response...

I like the Frabill panfish popper reels, they are microlite 2-6 lb line (I use 3lb)
also I just love my Shimano micro,

A good little reel I've been using for the last 3-4 years is the Okuma Ultralite. I think I have about 6 of these reels. Here's a link to them from FishUSA--> http://www.fishusa.com/tackleshop/catalog_product.asp?ProductFamilyID=%7B596FC0CB%2DE0BE%2D11D4%2D9ED3%2D000000000000%7D&i=044EE1B40F384D9083BD4A941B25EB78 (http://www.fishusa.com/tackleshop/catalog_product.asp?ProductFamilyID=%7B596FC0CB%2DE0BE%2D11D4%2D9ED3%2D000000000000%7D&i=044EE1B40F384D9083BD4A941B25EB78)

i have on my jigging rods, st.crox:s and have never had any issues yet.

Tica Cetus SB500. They are great reels.

Tica Cetus reels are my favorite tiny ice reels.(Have 7 thus far) I have some 2BB models thru 6BB models and they are all smooth. I could blinfold you and hand you one reel at a time and you would never know the diff between them.

I have been using Shimano Symetry 750 reels. They are a bit big to be concidered "micro", but I trust the drag with 2lb test. :)
They are a bit pricey compared with other small reels, but they are pure heaven to use.
-
I use the Shimano 750s for open water. They are superb reels to say the least.
-
I use the UL Pflueger Trion and President and they are awesome. I love the drags on both of them they have super fine adjustment and the initial drag start pressure is almost identical to moving drag pull strength...
Stick with what ya know!

Check out these 3. Good Lil reels for the price.
1.Tica Cetus
2.Shimano Ax-Uls
3.Abu Garcia Cardinall 100 Series

Tica Cetus SB500. They are great reels.
I'll throw in another vote for the Tica's, there awesome. Great drag and they won't freeze up.

gotta love the Quantum Xtralite XPS00 spinning reel holds 80 yards of 4 pound diameter line, and is as smooth as butter with those 6 ball bearings. you can actually see one in action on my Small pond dink trout thread, attached to my ultralite rod.

go with the tica cetus sb500. i have a couple of them.they are my favorites.tiny deadbolt is nice also.
-
Thanks guys, I went with the Tica Cetus SB 500 spinning reel. In fact I bought two of them. Cant wait to try them out they feel great.
-
good choice, you will be very happy with your purchase...they seem to be growing in populairty as a few years back you could only get them on-line form over seas, but I have begun to see them in store and more and more on-line as well

Anyone have experience with Browning reels? I picked up a Superlight BSL500B from Bass Pro Shops the other day. I like how it feels, but have no history with them.
