Speaking of sap, going to grab a few beers and head to a buds sugar house today and smell the glorious steam & wood smoke of the season.
To those receiving unsolicited advice, ignore them like a heard of sheep on the screen!     Rugburn OUT!

Rugburn when I was a young man I use to help out in a sugar shack and I couldnt get enough of that smell while it was boiling down

I sold my whole setup a while back, I ran a small 2x6 evaporator with 120 buckets. Never sold a drop of it, gave most of it away, or bartered with it. I still have a life time supply in storage. Pancakes anyone! 
I did keep a few pails & spouts in case I get a notion to make a batch of dark kettle syrup over a raging wood fire!

Freddie I have no idea  that guy has sent me 3 threatning  and rude  PMs so far ...I have no idea why or who he is ,but I ain't going to tolerate that kinda  foolishness any more ...and best I can figure he's mad because I took RG's pledge and carry a bag and pick up trash  or because I showed respect over the passing of a American icon .... who knows .....

anyways I got out for  a few hours and hammered  med to small perch  and got a couple  dinners worth  from 5:30 to 8:30 .....I would say where but in all honesty the ice is getting rough and I don
t want to feel responciable  but I had fun

Was over to sugar house last Sunday. They were getting ready. They had a very good year, last year, about 1800 gallons. It is quite an operation...h2l

and as far as Freddie being stupid .....he's the best man I have ever known when it comes to judging and reading ice  and how to not go swimming ,he's also  one of the most knowledgeable  walleye fisherman I know ......

LOL. I got sap coming out my ears.  It's beginning to interfere with the ice we have left.  It's a tough decision - guess I'll go on the overtime clock for the maple project.  Sleep will have to suffer for a couple weeks.

I didnt do any this year but I sure am missing the smell..

Lots of work and a pita hauling and boiling the 40 gallons of maple sap to get a gallon of maple syrup....but much easier and better yield, sweetness, and taste than the syrup you get from boiling sycamore , walnut , or birch tree sap.  Birch takes 80 to 100 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup!!....and it is very expensive.

Woody, from woodys port Ontario bait shop makes some great syrup from maple trees.
I buy some there every year.

Any of you ever try  maple cream ?...try it... it's unreal...makes you cry it is so good!

just got back. the shore line is shot. the water came up another foot. the main ice is ok if you can get to it. I ended up with 8 crappies, and 10 sunnies.   Sully...

I hear you FishFor Pike....It is a labor of love..... The end result is so delicious. Your friends and family are very lucky to get some of that real,  sweet,  natural,  maple goodness from you !!!
