Gas Auger Question?
« on: Feb 04, 2009, 01:53 PM »
I'm relatively new to the site, so if this question has already been asked please bare with me!
I was told that a lake/pond that prohibits boats with gas engines also prohibits the use of a
gas auger. I've looked through the handbook and cannot find anything specific on this subject.
Does anyone know the deal? Or where I might be able to find the answer in writing. Seems to
be a very grey area.

I've been on two lakes where they put an end to gas augers as well. To make it clear they change the sign at the boat launch and sometimes in the books. If I'm not mistaken (please, sombody check) Mamanasco put a clear end to gas augers 4 or 5 years ago.

According to the very handy and free 2009 CT Anglers Guide (page 22) http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/fishing/anglers_guide/anguide.pdf , the use of internal combustion engines is prohibited.

I must have broken the law as I used my auger there last week. granted it was not at 7am but at 9am so maybe that is why no one came out to complain. I came on the lake from a friends house so I never saw a sign saying you could not use it.
Over in NY I don't think you can use them on the reservoirs

I'm debating writing this because I don't want to give those politicians any crazy ideas, but here I go, " I wonder why they haven't mandated we regester our Gas or Electric Ice Augers like they do if you use them (motors) on a boat? They could say our sled is the boat and the auger is the motor. Sound far fetched? Ha! remember when some clowns wanted to regester paddle powered canoes and kayaks?

I had to register my canoe one year to put an electric trolling motor on it, has that changed?
