The hard way to catch a fish...
« on: Dec 05, 2010, 10:26 PM »
We were in the usual spot at Antero making some breakfast when Sarah asks, where's your rod??  I see the rod holder but no rod.  I ran over to the hole and sure enough it was gone.  We looked down the hole and were able to spot it on the bottom a few feet away.  I grabbed the auger to drill a hole on top of it, peer down and its gone.  It move a few feet further away.  Repeated the process several times before I was on top of the rod.  Tied on a big old spoon and went to work trying to snag it.  I'll let the video tell the rest.

It was definitively a new way to land a fish.

That is awesome!  I have lost a pole thru the ice before and been with others who have as well and have never seen a pole come back up thru the ice.  Way to not give up!

Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish.

That's pretty amazing. I've caught a salmon up here once that set off two of our tip-ups at once. Took a second to figure things out as my buddy was playing the same fish but we iced it. No video. Sorry.
"As I grow older, I've come to suspect that I have got it backwards, and that life, at its best, is a metaphor for fishing and writing. Or perhaps neither side of any metaphor is finally dominant, the one inextricably tied to its contrasting likeness, no longer merely a point of comparison but yoked in a new existence to its other self."
