Slammer Perch from late ice a few years ago.
Largest was at 2 Lbs. 5 Oz.

No, one of the guys I fish with has one mounted that is 16 1/8". I will have to beat that before I get one mounted.
I have tied the state record on three different occasions. You have to beat the current record by 1 Oz.

Wow!!! That is amazing! I feel ashamed of my 13 3/4 that I have mounted but thats mounted for the fact it was my first time ever throwing a spear. Well, needless to say I'm jealous.

I also fish a few private lakes that have slammer perch, but not the #s that the public lake perduce.

Those are some nice perch they look prehistoric those fish have been around a while ;D. Do you throw some of those back? Their holding allot of eggs that lake must have quite a few perch in it :thumbsup: :flex:

I have been fishing this fishery for 25 years. I take what my family and my parents will eat. I have not seen a decline in numbers or size over the years. The only time this lake gets fishing pressure for the perch is spring and ice season. Lots of people that fish this lake do not have a clue as to how the lake works. It has changed over the years due to alewives. There are areas on this lake in the spring that you can catch nothing but 3"-5" perch, they reproduce well.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. The SUMOS. Nice catch. It's nice when you can throw back 11 inchers. Hold on to that spot.

If you are in NEPA, there is only one very big public lake there - WP!
If this is true then you can give this name as much as you can because to find them there without actually knowing is more difficult then win a lottery. :)

I just noticed that the mormyska that you have on your rod is my favorite one (even though I have tonnes of them including custom made tungsten from Russia).
It works the best on perch and a lot of other fish. I've got 7 lb Brown trout on it.

This lake along with just about any other of the finger lakes in NY can produce fish like this and yes, better than 16" on occasion. Add Lake Erie and the bays of Lake Ontario and I think you would be hard pressed to find another state with the amount of jumbo producing waters that NY has.

JAZII, first I'm gonna say that is definitely a nice pile of SUMOS and you are correct that it's tough to come by perch of that caliber. But, like mentioned, there are some really nice perch lakes in NY. If you look at that picture again, You'll notice that one of the perch overlaps the other one about halfway. Not trying to take away from your perch because they are definitely some slammers, but they are fairly common here in NY as well.

Please make sure to post any pictures of those 15 to 17 inch fish. I'd love to see them. Even old photo's you have. Love seeing big perch.
And also, I'll start a new thread just for SLAMMER Perch(Those over 14") for all to post to of this years catches.

Of course they are, as are all female fish....im always amazed that when someone goes to the trouble of posting a good pic of thier catch, someone always has to chime in with the ole....all those eggs,,,kept too many,,,what about next year,,,,,,I know everyone has a right to their opinion, and certainly there are always game hogs, etc....but from what ive seen most folks on this site are pretty responsible...and fish are for eating!!

Dont get me wrong THEY ARE AWSOME PERCH!!!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!! I was just saying that when we get them on lake mich in the summer that big they look alot different because they dont have swollen belleys. Their eye balls seem to be popping out of their head though!!!! My pics are on the way tonight! I was just envious because of the added weight. Im sure i would have some in the 3 pound range.

No records, but we caught a few like this while fishing for smallmouth last month on one of the Finger Lakes. Didn't bother measuring them as we were fishing for bass..... This size is common there.

I have not caught a perch over 14 1/4" yet this year, but I have caught many in the 13-14" range. The bite always changes from first ice to mid ice to late ice. We have been averaging 20-30 per guy per trip out. The schools of perch seem to be a little scattered this year, they have not been packed up by size. They are starting to group better now. Also this year I have had fewer trips out than in the past few years. Sunday and Monday was the first time out there in 3 weeks. It's alot easier to stay on the perch when you can fish it 3-4 times a week.
No, I did not go with JAW. His trip was not to good.

That 17" perch mount is a fiberglass artificial fish mount! I am a full time taxidermist of 18 yrs and you can make a fiberglass mount any size you want! And , even a skin mount can be stretched , maybe about an inch bigger with a 15-16 inch fish, so, I am with JazzII, where is the 16 or 17" perch pic!!!???

We have them that big around here, but I ain't caught any that size and I've been ice fishing 50 years. Biggest I'v caught was 15" but not fat like yours. Very,very nice ;)

Most of those perch pics came from one lake. A very big man made lake in NEPA. The lake has a very good population of perch. In the spring on the main river inlet side of the lake you can catch 3"-5" perch by the 1000's. No problem with reproduction and the lake has a very diverse food supply.

Plenty over 12" this year for the little time I've been out.
I have not posted any pics due too the hate PMs and e-mails I get.

Why because you posted a picture of some nice perch you caught 10 years ago i could post thousands of perch pictures! We catch thousands of them every summer in lake erie from 10-16 1/2 inches every year! Who sends you hate mail,people from shanty? :tipup:

Very impresive!!We get some real good ones here on lake Simcoe but those are consistant Toads.
Looks like late ice fish.Is the lake deep you get them on?What kind of depths?Generally we catch em anywhere from 12ft to 50ft but March brings them into under 12ft depending on available cover.

Yes it has deep water, 50'-60'.
On average most of the perch come from 35'-45' until late ice when they stack like cord wood, staging for the spawn.

Great job those are true monsters ;D Wish we had good ice here so i could post som pics .Last year I caught one 15" and a gill that was 12.25"froze it for mounting and someone took it out the freezer and forgot it until they smelled it . I was sooooo mad !@#$$%%^!*&& . It happened while I was working out of state.
