Equipment for Lakers
« on: Feb 04, 2015, 01:24 PM »
Will be heading up to Northern NY mid Feb for several days. Plan to fish mostly for northerns but would like to try to jig for lakers as well. Wondering what size jigging rod and line weight to use. I've been told there are some big fish where I'm going but 2-4 pound would be average. Would a medium action rod with 4# test be enough or should I go a little heavier. Also plan on using Swedish pimples unless but other suggestions would be appreciated.

I run suffix 832 ice brain to a 40lb swivel, 6-8' of 8-10lb flouro leader to a duo lock snap. Pimples work well, bong don't be afraid of tube jigs and spoons.

"Brain" - "bong" ? Ok I see where your mind is ...  ::)  :woot: ::)

I skip the swivel and tie a blood or uni knot to join the leader to braid, and use a snap swivel to the lure. 3-4' of leader.
