Laker set up
« on: Oct 29, 2010, 01:24 PM »
I plan on getting set up for some lakers this year. What is a good set up for a rod, reel, and line. I am looking at the Mackinaw series rod by Jason Mitchell, but what would be a decent spinning reel too.? I have a decent jig and tube selection already. Last year I waited too long and tried to get set up in Jan / Feb and everything was sold out....Thanks, Scott

I like Shimano Solstace, its a mid range reel with a good drag system, which is of upmost importance for big lakers. I also prefer a 6-7' Med to Med heavy rod. I could never get used to the shorty's. JMO. For line I use 10# Fireline with a 36'' x 15# mono leader

I use an old Shimano bait caster on one rod and Quantum PTI spinning reels on a couple of others. For line I run 15# Power Pro braid.
