the ice took a beating yesterday! i was out and the lake started with 4-5 inches and when we left there was 3 inches of water on the ice and we had lost 1-2 inches! be careful or just wait for this cold snap to lock things up!

X2. With the warm spell and rain that just passed through I would not take any old reports for granted. Check it yourself and be safe.

Thanks guys, if the ice on the pond looks touchy we'll probably just keep driving North.

Thinking of trying Loon Lake, or maybe end up taking the rowboat out!

Just checked a spot that was 99% froze  a few days ago and now is 75% open water and white caps. Going to be cold tonight ,tomorrow and tomorrow night but windy as well >:( There may be a canoe and anchor in my near future :)

some of the lakes that are larger or not that locked lost quite a bit of ice yesterday im sure.. the one I fished sat had 6" and lost only an inch yesterday that grew all day again today..

So basically if they were good smaller bodies they are still fine..

Lake Vanare is private, if you want to get in and not get run off, I'd look into paying to access. I know they are very strict during the open water so I would be careful and get permission even on the ice at Vanare.

It's been locked since last Sunday at least. Don't know how safe it is, but it is being fished.

I fished it on Monday.  It was about 6 or 7 inches of hard black ice and 1 inch of white ice.  We walked out to middle of the lake and the ice was consistent the entire way.

We caught a few pike, a few perch, and a nice bass.

That's about what we got for pike.  The bass we caught was good sized.  All the perch were on the small side of "keepers".  All of our fish were released so the lake didn't take much of a beating from us on Monday.
