Fresh water shrimp

frozen eyelet:
Anyone ever try using freshwater shrimp icefishing?

I don't know where a guy would even find them??  I know some guys use them up north for perch and looking for input.

I use the fly tying alternative.Works sometimes sometimes I have to use bait.

Part of a email I received from my local fisheries biologist. I was asking about fresh water shrimp also, local marsh while duck hunting loaded with them.

Try a pet store.

We have tons of em in the lakes here in AK.
But they're too small to bother messing with.
As in a dozen fit on a dime small.
So just buy yourself some raw shrimp from the grocery store.
Do not use cocktail shrimp it's too brittle and doesn't stay on the hook well.
Cut it into small pieces at home and put it into small plastic condiment cups with lids or snack size baggies. Put a day's worth in each cup.
You can add bait dyes or scents to it as well.
My favorite is Mike's glo shrimp scent.
Then store in the freezer.
Take one container for each angler and a spare in case of real good fishing.
It works great on a jig or spoon.
Or can be fished on a bare hook.
Custom jigs and spins shrimpo is the closest imitation.
Trust me this is the best imitation and the fish that are eating scuds love the raw shrimp.
And it only cost $0.01-$0.02 per bait.
