Mack attack derby
« on: Jan 14, 2023, 04:51 PM »
Just wondering how the derby turned out, heard the ocean lake derby guys are battling some slush but with the cold it should be freezing up some. Hope everyone is catching a bunch of the little Lakers for the smoker or frying pan. Good luck out there.

In the midst of it right now. At least 200 people registered judging by pay out numbers. We gave some poundage away today they we shouldn’t have. Hoping for the ball to roll our way tomorrow

I’m hoping they’ll post the official results soon.

I lucked into some money taking second in a little side category of “biggest lake trout 19” or less” . It was only supposed to pay out one place on Saturday and one on Sunday but they got so many entry fees that they gave 3 places each day. Thankfully!

The overall winner got $3300 for the category of most average team weight. They paid 7 places.

They also paid saturday most weight winner and Sunday most weight winner.

The overall winners kicked butt and won both those days as well, I believe. So they walked away with $4300. Incredible winnings for a small time tournament.

Sounds like a good derby and might be one to put on the list to fish one of these years.

Congrats on placing at least in one category.

I think 95% payout or something like that. I’m really impressed with that. A lot of derbies are less than 70% pay out. They took money out for insurance and whatever was necessary. That’s it.

They are a good bunch of people- Hope the dropping water levels don't sabatoge all their hard work & investment!

Me too. They’re definitely nervous about it. Lots of snow sitting in the mountains but I’m too stupid to be able to understand the powers to be and they’re made up numbers for water allocations. Lots of news coming soon so we’ll see.

All we can do is hope & pray-Mother Nature has a way of turning it around. On my way home last week I saw lots of snow-Cokeville-has as much as I can remember - The Mule Deer are going to be struggling to make it- Hope to meet you someday when our plans coincide!

All this snow is a blessing and a curse. Always will be! We need it for moisture but it will always take some animals with it.

Definitely a double-edged sword, but so far nothing like the winter of 2016/2017 that killed almost all of the fawns.  That year the animals went into winter in poor condition and didn't stand a chance.  But in the long-term, snowy winters will have a positive effect on the habitat and deer/antelope populations. Plus water for the fish!!!

You count your years by the winters.

It's not being Cocky if you can back it up.
