The reels look super. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Nothing like making them yourself. You'd never be able to buy something like those. Congratulations for the fortitude to make them! They would make a most excellent Iceshanty derby prize as suggested.
Keep at it!

You've basically put custom, solid aluminum reels on an ice trap...6 ice traps...I'd hate to see the price if those were in LL Beans! Look at what they charge for some of their fly fishing reels...
Man those look nice! Judging by the some of your earlier comments about the boss, I guess you're not taking orders...but if you were, PM me.
I bet if you put some teflon impregnated cork washers on the spindle, you could have one of the smoothest drags/ice traps around!

nice looking spools never seen them with the fly reel look.I wonder if they will cause resistance in the water or make bubbles and or noise in shallow water for brook trout,or pike.

I havn't had much time to work on these . I did get one together today . Five more to go ,Then tear them back down and put on like 47 coats of Polly on lol . The wood looks better then the pic shows . I think it will look even better once the Polly is on . This is a pic with unfinished wood . I should have them ready and waiting for ice this week sometime . Now I really need ice .. I got the itch!!!
1-9-07 now with sealer on the wood . much darker !! also added drop down blocks on upper cross pieces . To help the trap sit flat on the ice .

Those look great GB, todays a good day for working on them, may not be on the ice, but at least you're into icefishing one way or another. I'm building a box for my buddy heater.
I can see those reels singing out the line with a big togue on em.

Quality work.... looking forward to seeing the finished product. If you want it done right, do it yourself. Jacktraps are the closest thing to something being made right but you sure are paying for it.

Beauty.
By way of suggestion, what do you think about marine varnish rather than poly? It may stand up better to being wet.

Just plain sweet! Out4Trout had his custom made traps today on Lake St George. I've never seen anything like them. Quality woodwork. Like a good bamboo flyrod, you'll enjoy using "your" traps for years to come. Look good on the ice. Hope you get into some good fish and see that custom reel sing!
