Schoodic lake
« on: Jan 16, 2024, 11:41 AM »
Judging from the webcams it looks like it's close to locking up. Hope the upcoming snow doesn't screw that up.

I only live about 10 miles from there so it's pretty convenient for me.

The south and north end are iced over. The middle is wide open.
Not sure how thick the ice is yet but I haven't seen anyone on it yet.

Has anyone checked Schoodic recently? I see from the webcams, it appears to be frozen over.

It's locked up. Some bare spots (no snow) in the middle but it isn't going to break up. -9 last night, -2 the night before, only one day in the 7 day forecast where it might go above 32. I won't ride my machine on it in the middle (yet) but would definitely walkable.

I'm on schoodic right now right off the Lakeview landing and there is around 8".
I'm not going very far out though.

Cool, any updates are appreciated.  We are staying on the north end of the lake Feb. 11th-15th and hoping to fish the Chase Cove area or other areas on that end.  Hoping to be able to get around on snowmobiles at least along the shoreline but we'll be checking the ice as we go.

Thank you for the updates. I am going to head up this weekend and hopefully fish in front of camp in Chase Cove.

I was fishing in the shallows with a big shiner just below the ice and got 4 flags in 2 hours. They pulled from 10-20 feet of line and dropped the bait. I'm going to try smaller shiners next time, maybe tomorrow.

We had 6" of ice in front of camp and it dwindled to 4" at about 100 yards out. That is as far as I went. Had a few flags, one which spooled me. I didn't get to it quickly enough. I had a few others with stripped bait. My son jigged up a few small lakers. It was great to be back on the lake. Until next weekend.

Cool, thanks for the reply and info.  We are coming up Sunday and staying at a camp on Slipper Lane north of Chase Cove.  Looks like a brief warm up before we get there.  Hopefully it cools back down.

I'll be back up fishing as well. If you decide to go out far, check the ice as you go. Good luck this weekend.

Thanks, you as well.  We will most certainly check the ice and run the shore line if we travel.

Fished out at Lakeview today. Nice day but not a single flag.
Ice is up to 9".

Whats the best option for bait?  Planning to bring most of ours.  C&J Variety if we need to?

That's where I get all my bait.

CJs is a good choice for bait.

Misty Mornings in Dover Foxcroft is another good choice.

Well we made it up.  Have plenty of smelts and large/x large shiners with us.  Gonna fish north of camp tomorrow.  Drilled holes from camp all the way across towards the islands and had 7.5-9” good ice.  Sent up the lake to the next cove by the big rock and ice was the same.  Going to head that way tomorrow.
Anyone catch fish this weekend?
You guys ever cusk fish on the north end?

I have never fished the north end for cusk but would like to sometime. Great eating fish. The lake trout jigging has been hot!

Well we are back.  I guess we should have done more jigging because the fishing was quite slow.  Still a good trip but only 10 togue for 5 of us over 3 days.  4 cusk, mostly small ones and one togue over 3 lbs.  We did get a 5 lb cusk Monday night.  A lot of eagles on the lake, nice to see.  Biologist stopped by Chase Cove where we were Tuesday.  We were the 7th stop and only one with a fish.  Good luck at the derby everyone!
