Small pike, underrated in the fryer
« on: Dec 29, 2021, 10:03 AM »
Never see much about people eating pike, BUT, if you use the 5 fillet boneless method to cut em up it all comes out pretty good.  I dont taste much difference between pike and walleye/crappie/perch.

I've always thought pike were pretty tasty, just gotta get all of the bones out. We got a new air fryer for X-mas, need to give it a shot!

Pike is fantastic. Been eating them for years.
I have an incredible pickled Northern recipe past down to me. It’s incredible.

I agree with you all.  Pike is nice and flaky and very tasty.  Getting the bones out takes a little work but not too hard; multiple filleting techniques will get the job done.  Thinning out a few smaller pike might help some fisheries.

Smaller pike in the 2.5 to 5 lbs range are perfect. I prefer them pan fried in a few tablespoons of butter, rather than deep fried. Bigger ones are sort of fatty / rubbery when pan fried, so on the odd occasion that one doesn't make it (swallowed quick strike, etc), I'll deep fry those.

I enjoy Pike. Not many options in my area for them though so I don't keep them. When I lived in Minnesota though we ate them regularly.
