Pile of death (1/24/21)
« on: Jan 24, 2021, 08:02 PM »
My hands are tired from filleting!   ;D. Got a nice pile of death today.  Two limits in two hours.  Nothing huge, but good eater size.  Biggest went 8.5".  I'm getting pretty good at filleting: tried the quick method posted by Shoe, and it's ok.  I still like keeping the head ON while filleting.  Tacos for days!   @)

Did you use Slayer and Shoe’s holes?  If so, it doesn’t count.  Nice pile.

Very nice! Lot of work for meat. But they do eat well!
Didja do the "no hike" trip?

A nice leisurely morning - left the house at 7am, on the ice at 9am.  Limits by 11am, home by 2pm to see Brady punch his 10th ticket to the big game!  ;) ;D

Missed this post.  Nice job - easy limits are great.  Glad you are thinning the herd.  I don't like cutting the heads off either.  I had an electric fillet knife laying around not being used...it makes quick work of it...so, I have gotten used to it.  I think a 2" instead of a 4" fillet knife is needed on these dinks. Stew is almost gone - I will have to go back.

Yep, definitely needs more thinning!  I’m excited for my fish fry/taco night tonight.  I’m planning on a spicy panko crust, cilantro lime sauce, and a mango coleslaw.  Pics later.

My 5” blade is too big for those guys, I think I might invest in a smaller one.  They’re good little fillets, just takes too long with my knife.  I’m down to about a minute and a half per fish.  Need to get down under a minute.   ;)

Gift from my brother.  And I don't want to dull my regular knives cutting dink perch heads off.   ;D

This is what I've always used: my 5" rapala.  It always works, but it was a bit too BIG for the job (that's what she said).   :roflmao:

I might try this one, the next time I harvest fish from that spot  ;D:

Blackened perch tacos with coleslaw and creamy cilantro sauce

To work with the "diminished" size of the perch fillets, I decided to coat them in a blackened seasoning mix and pan-fry them, kinda like chicken fajitas.  Turned out great!  With my creamy cilantro sauce and coleslaw...YEP...twas good.   @)

The crema recipe is here:

Can use lime or lemon, sour cream or yogurt, or a mix of the two.  It’s pretty much the bomb for tacos.
