Blue Mesa ice?
« on: Feb 13, 2015, 08:52 AM »
Planning a trip to Blue Mesa in two weeks. Does anyone know how the ice is holding up and how far west safe ice exists? We usually take off from elk creek and head west with atv's but with highs in the 40's in Gunnison, I am wondering if that will be possible this year. Thanks for your help in advance.

Wont go far past Elk creek. Open water out in the Bay of Chickens.  Conditions are Open water,Skim ice,4"-30" depending on where you are. All East of Elk Creek is ice.

Similar story. We were out there on 4 wheeler in the narrows several weeks ago and ice was 10-12" all the way through. Ice didnt go to far into the bay. With temps below freezing at night I imagine we havent lost much even with warmer temps.
