Title: Looking to ice perch
Post by: Huntfishman on Jan 26, 2021, 11:23 AM
I live in Colorado Springs and miss living in NW CO where there are more opportunities to icefish warm water species. Not big on trout.. Wanting to target perch through the ice about 2 to 3 hours from springs. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There are perch near you in Elevenmile.  Just gotta find them, but that is true in every lake.

I remember when I moved here a decade ago and wanted to fish perch and crappies here on the west slope.  Not wanting to be a mooch, I spent the next 5 years, 1000s of miles and hundreds of dollars finding good lakes and figuring them out. Id drive 5-8hrs round trip for 3 or zero perch many times.  The juice is sweeter when you squeeze it yourself. Good luck!

Squeezing juice out of perch spots isn’t the best way to describe it... ::) ;D BTW, one of those “spots” is my honey hole...

You cant classify an entire lake that neither one us has figured out as a honey hole, come'on now ;)

Fair enough bud. hookin up with you was instrumental to learning that lake, respect!

Cant wait to try the camera on those clear waters.  Maybe a new chapter in the book.

I think we are all learning that endless hotspotting online is hurting the numbers in the lakes we fish.  Especially warm water species in CO. ESPECIALLY panfish. There are a lot of resources showing which lakes have perch.  Good luck

I actually think that lake needs some thinning out- Want to tell the world. :P

Could be a double-edged sword. ;)

I think a guy on Sploiter let it out. Bud? ;D

Crazy, didnt even know that colorado fisherman forum existed  until about 15 seconds ago via the sploiter thread.  Illstick with the shanty.

Can think of 2 perch lakes and a crappie compound that could legitimately use thinning.  Problem is what happens when theyre thinned and the people keep coming? I dunno.  All these bodies of water are reservoirs, so basicslly theyre just large science projects.  Nothing natural about any of these fisheries.

If they were MY science projects, I would add walleye and pike to the equation at that reservoir!  ;)

This sites is for bragging not asking information, every body is tied lips, can’t get any out of people so better spend time do research and check it out by yourself, Aurora and Chatfield and some other lake do have perch but it not easy to catch them metro, the farther you away from metro you have more change to find good fishing spot and away from people lolzzzzz

I’d rather ice walleye over perch any day.  ;D

Bwahahaha! ;D
So, I should go THAT mile then THIS mile and THAT mile by the house?  Or....THIS mile followed by that other mile with the OTHER mile by the house?
Trying to pinpoint the GPS coordinates for tomorrow.

Half the state was there, taking many perch with them.
Come on, Johnny-that’s not accurate...

...it was more like 3/4 of the state!  ;D
