Hello, Quick intro I'm a life long fish wrangler but new to ice fishing. Moved to Evergreen last winter from IN and after seeing everyone last winter ice fishing I decided I wanted to give it a shot. Now for questions. How quickly does the warmer temps and sun affect the ice? I've been waiting for good safe ice and was planning on making my first dry run on Evergreen lake Sat. but it supposed to hit 50, should I be cautious? Also any tips for evergreen? I know its mainly stockers but its a stones throw away and I want to test out all my new to me gear from the "List" close to home. Don't want to drive 2hrs to find out my auger stinks. Thanks

There are a few people catching trout at Evergreen Lake. They say there is 6-8" of ice and that to stay away from the Ice skating rink side as they flooded it with water. Be safe out there. 50 Degrees isn't going to affect 6" of ice but the shoreline can get soft in the afternoon.
Just try some jigs and if you have them Kastmasters. Green is a good choice and Gold on Lures.

I know its redundant but you should Always Be Cautious. That being said, 6" of ice should be fine. The long overnight temps outweigh the few hours that get above freezing. This early in the season the sun's impact isn't nearly as harsh on the ice as well.
Be safe and have fun. Catch one of those Tiger Muskie that are in there.

Thanks for the ice info. I like swimming just on my terms and preferably on a beach with bikinis all around. Cant wait to drill the first hole in the morning.
Would love to hook a muski. Caught a few up in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Best was 45". Have to find the pictures.
If all goes well tomorow thinking Georgetown next weekend. Any othe lakes within an hour or so? 11mile and those that direction are 2hr drive. That's a all day commitment there and I don't always have that much time but I can always come up up with 4-5hrs for a fairly close lake.

Fished evergreen this evening for about 2 hours. Ice is 10" and the fish were biting. You could hardly let your jig hit the bottom before you had a fish. Fish 13 FOW. Great place to bring kids and beginners don't forget the ice rink opens tomorrow!
