Title: portables
Post by: AkDan on Feb 04, 2014, 11:20 PM
Curious if anyone's tried an otter lodge or something similar?

Plans for a built pull behind spearhouse?

I've seen reference to the eskimo hub style for a spear house  What size hole are you running and what are you using to nock the light down on the floor?

Curious about ice thickness...we're running 2' to 3' or more depending on lake.  I'm used to spearing in inches, not feet.

forgot to ask how much ice can an ice saw handle?   2'?  3'?

The saw will handle 3 feet but it gets to the point when the drag of each stroke wears you down. If you are patient and take it slow and easy (don't kill yourself), it will get a hole in the ice.

I have an Otter cabin and in my opinion there would have to be better setups for spearing. Mine isn't as dark inside as I like. I personally have an old Mankato house when I need a portable.

My portable is an Eskimo FatFish 949I. I built a floor that folds in half out of 2x2's and 3/8" plywood and covered it in outdoor carpet. My hole is 30"x48". This house works awesome to spear from.

Thanks for the idears

I had seen going through the 17 pages (still have some to go through) where guys were using rubber matt's.   Looked slick and LIGHT lol.   Otherwise I had thought about doing the wood floor in the otter.

I reckon I probably should have been spearing earlier in the year when the ice wasn't 3 feet thick.   Sure makes seeing fish tough.

I'll hold off on the ice saw for this winter and pick one up for earlier next winter.   Thanks for the info on them also.
