Current Temp at Houghton Lake is 32 Degrees

Of course, three weeks ago, I was swimming in 59 degree water.

keep droppin' ....can't wait for the hard stuff. just wanted to post ,new to ice shanty and we have an annual ice trip up to houghton from northern indiana every feb. can't wait for it........it's a great lake......

33 degrees this mornin at Houghton Lake, while Im sitting here waitin to leave for Deer Camp. Yippeeee!!!!!!!

That was a wind.  Kind of like what was blowing most of January last Winter, right?  I must have been quite entertaining, picking up leaves on Saturday, then having twice as many blow in the next day.  I'll be up this weekend, to finish up the leaves.  Son flies home for Thanksgiving, so won't be up till December.  Am working on some mods to my shanty.

we fished the middle ground last year didn't do too bad......although i guess you can't do bad anywhere when you're packin' a vexilar !!! about what time does houghton freeze enough to get out on? I've only been there feb and after...

Once in a while December first.
I remember once, during Deer Hunting Season.
Sometimes not till Christmas.
Once or twice, well into January.

Houghton is a shallow lake and subject to quick temp changes.  No way to guess when we can get out.  It freezes quick, once it gets a cover over the top.  You can gain at least an inch a day.  Hope for cold days with little wind.  Water was so warm this year, the first two weeks in December would surprise me, but if it turns cold for those first two, the last two could be fun.  Dach lives there, so he will be our organizer.  I'll be there most weekends, waiting for safe ice.

Hey Guys I just got back from 6 days at Deer Camp, YeeHaw!!!... LOL

On my way home from Camp, down west of Clare, every pond and small Lake I passed was frozen over. Yippee!!
Also the swamps on the west end of Houghton Plus some small Bays on Houghton itself were frozen, I'll let you know when it happens for sure though.

I'm almost done with Deer season,

 Nice deer Dach but whats with all that facehair, that wont help keep you warm this winter. Let us know when the ice is save.
