so when you spool your jig poles.......
« on: Feb 11, 2007, 07:21 PM »

And you want to use flourocarbon, can you spool the whole reel with the flouro?  I thought that I heard/read that you are supposed to start with mono. and then add the flouro. after.  Anybody got any ideas as to why?  And how do you rig YOUR jig poles??  Also, do you tie the 2 types of line directly together??

Thanks for any advice.
have a CRAPPIE day!!

You can do that it will save money but if I had a big laker on I would not take that chance to save a few dollars instead of a fish of a life time!

there is no real need to back fluorocarbon with mono as it has suficient stretch to grip the spool. you can if you want to save money though. just use a good knot like a uni to uni splice. properly tied and lubricated that knot can maintain 98-100 percent knot strength.

I've alway used Fluorocarbon alone.  No problems.  Only superbraids I've used a mono backup of about 15-20yds.  You don't need it, & you won't save that much $ if you do!

I prefer fire line then tip it with flourcarbon.

I have 40 poles to worry about spooling each year. So for the first time ever, I decided to cut down on respooling some poles each year.  I am using last years  2lb and 4lb Silver Thread and have had no break-offs yet.  I kept rods out of the sun and heat and lines are holding up.  I am pleasantly supprised.  So to answer your question:  Next year.....  maybe
