Title: Blue Mesa fishing well
Post by: brown-time on Jan 06, 2024, 05:15 PM
A farmer friend of mine named Jon hit up Blue Mesa with me this morning. 22 fow was golden, two nice browns first drops on 2” power minnows. Caught 21 in 3 hours, despite 20 mph “breeze”. Kept 4 of each color. Fat 14-18” rainbows also on Berkley atomic teasers.

Great job BT! Would really love to fish the big Blue, but it just so far for us living in the "bubble"  ;D. Would love to plan out a 2 or 3 day trip, if you've got any recommendations on where to stay. Hear that there are quite a few perch that might need help in population reduction  ;)

Thanks, Johnny. Iola basin is loaded with perch, weedy or brushy coves are the key. We usually have a 3-5/1 catch to keep ratio but there are quite a few 12” perch there. They definitely need thinned out. A pic of my grandsons cooler from last July.
