I stopped looking at the 10 day forecasts.  I got tired of the dissappointment.  its kind of like watching your tip-ups and waiting for them to go off.

since the new 10 day forecast takes us into Mid February without any cold weather i am starting to think about Spring Training for my old man's baseball league  :o

at this rate we'll be practicing outside on march 1   ;D

Lots of water on the ice wednesday from watching cams at Harris.  Guys walking out Friday morning though.  They are braver than me.

I've been checking them everyday and Harris has had ice on it for awhile now but I can't tell how thick it is just by looking at it. im trying to convince my dad to drive me up from Long Island for a weekend of fishing but he won't go unless there's at least 4-5 inches black ice so any info is appreciated

More like 3 on Harris.     With the warm weather and wind tomorrow I don't know how it will be. Last time it took a beating

My head is hanging low right now, I took a ride to Harris Bay this afternoon & what I saw made my heart sink. Yes there were some guys out there but I think the days are numbered & I mean like tomarrow, it's not worth it to me risk it, I'll fish other places. The ice broke into big slabs almost to the Happy Family Islands.

There's a nice Perch spot I know and a row boat with my name on it. As much as I enjoy walking on water sometimes it's better to float on it.

From web cam looks like southern end is starting to freeze, as is Harris Bay.  Pray for a clam day and night and maybe on the ice soon!

Actually yes, the Asian clam is one of the latest invasives to get into Lake George, millions have been spent trying to try to get rid of them and and at this point it looks like they are here to stay. Now they are lust trying to control them.

Another invasive that just showed up last summer is the spiny water flea; this one could hurt the fishery in a couple ways. One problem is they grab onto fishing line and form large clumps. I started finding them last August in the South Basin and brought a sample in for confirmation; kept finding them attached when I trolled in one area for a while, then more and more places. They haven't been a problem yet, just have to knock them off the line; floating and suspended weeds in August/September are a much bigger pain to deal with. In other lakes they have large numbers of fleas and can't fish with light line because of the fouling(I use mostly 6 lb trolling).

The other problem is that they will mess up the food chain, they eat other invertebrates that baitfish need for food; baitfish can eat the fleas but they have little nutrional value. We'll have to wait and see how bad they get, the lower nutrient levels in LG may limit them from what I have heard.
