Smelt Sausage

Tubes have gained popularity for lake trout in recent years. What they lack in vibration, they make up for as a slow, spiralling, easy-to-eat target. They mimic a dying smelt very well.

Two modifications I use are scent and a rattle. Tube inserts with rattle chambers are available for bass, and their audible clicking is a key factor in drawing trout in from such a wide swath of dark water. Chop a portion of thawed smely into a paste and stuff the tube with it. A scrap of cotton batten absorbs all the excess gunk from your fingers, keeps the meat inside, and traps a lot of air for an even slower rate of fall. Slit or poke holes in the tube's flanks to let the scent escape.

For an exagerated spiral on the fall, pop the hook eye out well back from the tube's nose.

Splice in a black barrel swivel several feet up the line to beat line twist.

I was just browsing the forums and caught this one...I'm quite a chef with wild game and fish...saw your post and thought "This otta' be good!"
