I Switched
« on: Dec 19, 2009, 09:52 AM »
I went the way of Bro Brosdahl. After owning 3 Clams- Pro, Scout and a 5600- I bought a Frabill Refuge the other day. I needed a house that would fit in my cars backseat, and it was between that and the Clam 2000. I am 5 foot 7, and I can stand up in the Refuge. That made my mind up on the spot. I cannot be happier with it, had it out the other night and it is one very nice unit.

I was always a happy Clam owner, they make fine shelters, but the Refuge and the 2000?? No comparison.

I just bought the Frabill Refuge also. It was between that and the Clam 2000. I wanted the extra room and height, so I went with the Refuge.
The Clam looked better built however, but was small.

the only difference i noticed size wise was the height, when i did want to stand up i would just go out for a walk and check the tip ups or something, KAJ i was debating between the two like you were but i went with the clam 2000 cause i thought it was better built and heard of the great customer service they have and im a clam man for life. ;) ;D

Frabil makes a nice unit, I own a clam and could not be happier, but I sat in a few frabils on the showroom this year and they were a nice product

Just make sure to use some good ancors, those cabin style shacks like to grab wind. I love the floor covering they used in the refuge!!

I don't see a place on the shanty to place the anchors.

I used to put my anchors in the holes in my 5600, one on each opposite corner, worked good, plus I didn't have to make a hole in the floor.

I usually try and set house on snow, cuts down on the wind/sliding on ice
