anyone in nw iowa fishing safe ice yet??

If you go to the Iowa section you will see they are fishing good ice.

I live up in the area, it will be this coming next weekend. I hope the wind blows the snow we got off the lakes and ponds so it doesn't insulate them from making ice.

We drove up to worthington MN just across the boarder didn't see anyone fishing the okabena lake in town yet either.

I have one more week of work then I will be off for 3 weeks I'm hoping between SD,IA, and NE I can get some solid fishing in.

They have been fishing the grade on Big Spirit for a few days now.

I was on the grade Friday. I wasn't the first to drill but I might have been the first to fish. I didn't mark a lot but a few. Caught a bullhead and a blugill. This was at 10am, so fishing til dark may have led to more success. A fella who got their after me said he marked a lot but no takers. Ice was 3.5-5". Lots thicker than I would have guessed.

Always thought it'd be a good place to try for early ice pike.  Nice weedline on the west side.  Main lake is nice and locked up and looks like the snow blew all to the south end.  A couple hundred yards of open water yet south of Stoney.  When I come back next week the wheeler is coming with.  My guess is we will be driving out by Dec 1st at the latest.  Can't wait to coax some eyes up from the depths and hopefully some perch.  There were nice size ones coming in off our dock this fall.

Not much but didn't venture far from shore. Last year did well on the river early ice.

I am going to try Brown Saturday. A co-worker's dad was out there earlier and said it was solid, but didn't go out very far. I think we should be good by the weekend.

Drilled holes in alton park pond. They was 7.5in of ice. Pond SE of sheldon......open water. Mill Creek froze over and goose hole open in middle.

How bad is this rain gonna mess up our ice tomorrow?!? Was hoping to go out tomorrow but sounds like we are getting a inch of rain in the eastern Iowa area

Just my opinion but I would stay away for a week not worth the risk

Fished paulina and storm lake today. Not much ice at Paulina (2-4") and only caught one small gill. Storm Lake has 5-8" on the east end and 2-3" on the west end. I fished the east end the last 3 nights and only caught 1 walleye and 1 perch total. Hopefully the rain doesn't hurt the ice and the fish start biting.

Nothing for me yet, may try to get out tomorrow. Hopefully make a trip to SD and see if anything happening next weekend.

yes about 5in on the west end off the dock by dnr sheds. Todays warm up couldnt have been good

'Lil' 'Em' is only 1/2 froze over. Wind, not geese, is keeping it open. No safe ice there but........I know where

I was out on Browns yesterday. Tried 3 spots all were about 3" of ice. The sun came out as I went down there and it got warm quick. Some spots were sketchy and I could feel it give a little under me. Didn't have any bites and nothing on the Lowrance but was nice using my new auger though. The channel at Snyder's Bend also has 3" but I was just checking thickness and only fished for about 5 minutes.
